LSU fans who donated to the College World Series Jell-o Shot Challenge helped the Tigers place third in the overall competition money-wise this year even though they weren’t in Omaha. Mike Manning with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank says LSU fans donated almost 93-hundred dollars.

Ascension Parish deputies are investigating the murder of a Gonzales woman and have arrested her husband, 50-year-old Sean Morris. Morris is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Brenda Morris. Col. Donald Cappello says Ascension Parish is blessed with a low crime rate, but sadly this is the second domestic homicide they’ve investigated in the last few weeks.

Donald Capello with the APSO says they received multiple 9-1-1 calls of shots being fired last night and when they arrived, they found 44-year-old Brenda Morris dead. Sean has been charged with second-degree murder and Capello says he’s no stranger to law enforcement.

Former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason will receive the 2024 Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPYs. Gleason, who played for the Saints from 2000 to 2008, was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that eventually robs a person of breathing, talking or moving, in 2011. Gleason and his wife Michel founded the nonprofit Team Gleason following his diagnosis to improve life for others living with ALS. This year’s ESPYS will air live on Thursday, July 11 at 7 PM.

A Caddo Parish Jury convicted 45-year-old Charlene Henderson guilty of Second-Degree murder Wednesday in the 2022 death of her husband, Larry Clark. Henderson took the stand in her own defense saying she feared for her life when she shot Clark, covered his body with carpet and doused it with gasoline before sending a photo of the scene to a family member. The Jury deliberated for 2 hours before coming back with a guilty verdict.

Carville says the MAGA voting base isn’t enough to help Trump return to the White House. He says in state primaries there are still Republicans voting for Niki Haley, for example in Colorado she received 33 percent of the vote, 22 percent in Indiana, and 18 percent in Nebraska.

Governor Jeff Landry’s line-item vetos total four point five million dollars from non-profits. The biggest cuts are one million dollars from Catholic Charities of Acadiana that provides emergency homeless shelter operations for eight parishes, $500,000 from Teach for America that serves high needs schools and $1,000,000 from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

50-year-old Sean Morris of Gonzales has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, 44-year-old-Brenda Morris who was found deceased last night after several calls to 9-1-1 reported shots fired around 7:30. APSO Col Donald Cappello says Morris is no stranger to law enforcement.

The aftermath of Jim Schonslneggle’s move from Texas A&M to Texas is causing chaos in College Station. Many A&M players, including two major players in Jace LaViolette and Gavin Grahovac have entered the transfer portal three days after playing in Game 3 of the Men’s College World Series. This move is set to significantly impact the team’s dynamics and future prospects as LaViolette is a high draft prospect in 2025, and Grahovac was the SEC Freshman of the Year.

LSU Eunice baseball’s Head Coach Jeff Willis has earned multiple American Baseball Coaches Association awards and more than 1,000 wins this past season. Willis received the Gulf District Regional Coach of the year and the national coach of the year awards in a season where LSU Eunice went 56 and 8 and earned its eighth NJCAA Division II title.

And LSU finished thirteenth in the Directors’ Cup Standing for 2023 and 2024. The Tigers earned the most points from their gymnastics national championship and placed 5th among SEC teams in the Cup race.

Governor Landry vetoed a bill that would have given him the ability to pardon certain first-time convicted marijuana possession offenders without the recommendation of the pardon board. Brooke Thorington has more.

45-year-old Charlene Henderson was found guilty in a Caddo Parish District Court Wednesday for the 2022 shooting death of her husband, Larry Clark. Investigators says after she killed him, she doused his body with gasoline. She will be sentenced July 16th.

Sulphur businessman Todd Hine says his auto insurance rates are up more than 40%. He’s the owner of Hine Environmental Services, and he’s been told the rates are going up because of the state’s legal climate.

Hine met with Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple who told him the state needs tort reform legislation but legislation to make such changes was vetoed by Governor Landry.

Louisiana’s unemployment rate decreased to 4.1-percent in May. Emily Epps with the Louisiana Workforce Commission says 86 thousand individuals were unemployed last month, and the state is recording over 100 thousand vacant jobs, which will likely remain unfilled.

A Louisiana businessman says his insurance rates are up over 40% and he’s not sure how long he can take it. Todd Hine, owner of Hine Environmental Services, a small waste services business in Sulphur, says his insurance payments went from 300-thousand dollars to over a million, which he was able to negotiate down. He feels increasingly frustrated that he keeps having to pay more.

Data from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Louisiana’s unemployment rate decreased for the month of May to 4.1%. Baton Rouge added almost 7 thousand jobs and Alexandria also added 600 jobs from May 2023. However, the Monroe area lost 600 jobs from April and 1500 jobs from May 2023, which Louisiana Workforce Commission Director of Research and Economic Analysis Emily Epps says is concerning to the Workforce Commission.

Governor Jeff Landry vetoed a bill that would have given his office the ability to pardon certain first-time convicted marijuana possession offenders without the recommendation of the pardon board. New Orleans Representative Delisha Boyd says the veto letter explanation that her bill was soft on crime doesn’t make sense.
