The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s has arrested a Pitkin woman for murder after she allegedly killed her husband. Deputies say 53-year-old Melissa Ann Sweat called authorities and they responded to a home in Pitkin and found 61-year-old Rodney Sweat dead. Melissa Ann Sweat was taken into custody. No details on what led to the shooting.

East Baton Rouge authorities have ruled the death of an infant left in a hot car all day last month an accident. The parent told deputies they forgot to drop their six-month-old child at daycare in the morning and realized the terrible mistake when they went to the daycare facility after work. According to Rollins, these accidents often result from a combination of stress, fatigue, and changes in routine, which can disrupt normal memory processes.

Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people in Jamestown and removed 33 dogs from poor living in poor conditions. 32-year-old Tanya Michelle Griffith and 29-year-old Allen Tyler Meylian face 32 counts of cruelty to Animals. Humane Society of Louisiana Director, Jeff Dorson says since Bienville Parish has no Animal Control Department, animal rescue is up to the Sheriff’s office…

The Humane Society of Louisiana says 26 dogs had to be rehomed after Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies charged two people in Jamestown with 32 counts of cruelty to animals. The drinking water was exposed to a toxic herbicide primarily used for weed control. 15-hundred AT&T workers in Louisiana are on strike accusing the company of unfair labor practices during contract negotiations. They are among the more than 17-thousand AT-and-T workers in nine states that have walked off the job. AT-and-T and the Communications Workers of America have been trying since June to reach a new labor agreement. AT-and-T denies the union’s accusations.

43-year-old Anthony Hughes is recovering after getting shot at a spirit event near Bossier High School’s football stadium last night. Hughes got into a fight in the parking lot and was involved in a car crash after being shot by 32-year-old Markus Kelly. Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Matt Gaydos says this is highly unusual for Bossier and they want to make sure nothing like this happens again…

A judge has set a bond of one-million dollars for 32-year-old Hannah Cormier of Jennings after she was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly leaving her 10-month-old daughter in a car for two hours while she worked a shift at Wendy’s. Authorities believe the child died of heat exposure, as the heat index rose above 106 degrees and Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes says the inside of the vehicle felt like 140 degrees…

Matt Gaydos says Hughes got into an altercation with some juveniles during the event, leading to a fight in the parking lot. Gaydos says 32-year-old Marcus Kelly shot Hughes and then the two were involved in a car crash…

32-year-old Hannah Cormier of Jennings received a one-million-dollar bond after she was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly leaving her 10-month-old daughter in a car for two hours while she worked a shift at Wendy’s. Authorities say the mother claimed to have forgotten her child in the car, but given the situation, she was taken into custody. The charge of second-degree murder indicates there is intent. Governor Jeff Landry told the Bossier Chamber of Commerce that tax reform and revamping the state’s department of transportation will be a major focus next year. Landry says when it comes to the state’s tax code, there’s too much of a benefit for special interests. He says when it comes to revamping the state department of transportation, he wants to remove the bureaucracy that’s in place, which he says is holding the state agency back…

Another LSU team is competing for a national championship. LSU-Shreveport’s Fishing Team is heading to the Bassmaster College Series 2024 National Championship in South Carolina. The team broke a record with five boats qualifying for a two-day event that starts Thursday.
