Incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu announced this week her decision to participate in four televised debates — but her main challenger, Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy, says he won’t make a decision on Senate debates until after qualifying. Rob Maness has agreed to participate in the same four debates as Landrieu. Cassidy’s spokesman said the Senate race won’t have a formal field of candidates until after qualifying is over. The period runs from August 20-22.

New EPA regulations that would require the state to lower ozone pollution levels have some Louisiana business owners concerned about the impact on the state’s economy. Matthew Doyle has more…:

Police found the bludgeoned body of 77 year-old Chester Oakley, wrapped in sheets, and buried in a tomato garden behind the home.

It was a close call for the main house of the Myrtles Plantation last night when a fire broke out in the gift shop. It took the St. Francisville Fire Department, along with several other agencies from around the area, a couple of hours to get control of the blaze. The main house was not damaged. And that fire is currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Sgt James Anderson says 49-year-old Chief James Parrott allegedly followed his wife and another man around and also called her employer requesting that she be fired. He says Parrott picked up a malfeasance in office charge for allegedly using the police department’s equipment to extend the crime…:

Anderson says once the suspect bonded out on a $1000 bond at Vernon Parish he was also booked in Beauregard Parish on a $15,000 bond for the same charges.
