A Grand Isle businessman was sentenced to 25 weekends in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of federal civil rights violations after Hurricane Issac. Josh Jambon admitted to using racial slurs striking two black female crew members cleaning up on the island after the storm. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says this is an unusual sentence:

According to court records Jambon thought the crew damaged his property and hit two women and tried to take a cell phone from a third to record what he was doing. In addition to the 25 weekends, Jambon also has to pay $10,000 in fines.

Don’t forget tomorrow is election day. The ballot is highlighted by a hotly contested US Senate Race and Louisiana’s 5th and 6th districts. Polls are open from 7am-8pm.

State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Livingston Parish that has left two men dead. Trooper Jared Sandifer says 50-year-old Lloyd Hutson of Jackson was driving on LA 447 near Walker when he crossed the center line into the path of a car driven by 76-year-old Raymond Bender of Denham Springs. The two vehicles collided head-on and both drivers were killed. Sandifer says investigating troopers believe impairment may have been a factor in this wreck…:

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office is investigating a West Monroe officer involved shooting in which the suspect died at a local hospital last night. The identity of the officer is not being released. The DA is reviewing the case.

6th Congressional District candidate Garret Graves is disputing accusations from his opponent, Former Governor Edwin Edwards, that his family gets special privileges because of Governor Bobby Jindal. Richard Fleming says they received information that a woman was being held hostage at an apartment complex Thursday afternoon. He says when officers arrived, the suspect, 31-year-old Thomas Chevalier attempted to leave with the victim…:

Authorities say as 50-year-old Lloyd Hutson of Jackson was trying to execute a right curve, his vehicle crossed the center line into the path of a car driven by 76-year-old Raymond Bender of Denham Springs. The two vehicles collided head-on. Neither man was wearing a seat belt and both suffered fatal injuries as a result. Officials say impariment is suspected on the part of Hutson.

There was a I-10 traffic nightmare around 8 o’clock this morning between Lafayette and Baton Rouge, as two 18-wheelers collided with another vehicle, and spilled diesel fuel near Grosse Tete (TATE). The I-10 was for about 6 hours for clean-up, and reopened mid-afternoon. State Troopers say there were no serious injuries.

Louisiana has filed a motion to have their case for the gay marriage ban heard in the nation’s highest court, before the Federal Appeals Court in New Orleans rules. A Federal Judge has already upheld Louisiana’s gay marriage ban, and the 5th Circuit will hold a hearing on the case next month.
