In Fisher, Louisiana a body that was discovered this morning in a burned out home is being ruled as a homicide, according to the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s identity has not been released, and authorites are on the hunt for the owner of the home, who is missing.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says the body of a 24-year-old man was found in a Metairie canal this morning. A witness reportedly told authorities he and the unidentified victim drank alcohol for several hours yesterday. When he left, he saw the victim go swimming from the canal bank. The witness returned to the canal and discovered the body. Foul play is not suspected, according to authorities.

A meeting between Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White does not produce an agreement on where to go from here when it comes to having a standardized test in place for the upcoming school year.  The dispute erupted when Jindal used executive authority to keep tests associated with Common Core out of Louisiana.  White says BESE leaders believe they have the legal authority to determine the type of standardized test students should take, but the Jindal administration has made it clear they should be involved in that process…

A small child was struck and killed by her father’s truck in Bossier City.  The tragic incident occured Thursday morning as 27-year-old Damion Dacaldacal was preparing to take his three children to daycare.  Bossier City Police Sgt. Brian Griffith says at some point Dacaldacal lost track of one of his children and as he was pulling out of the driveway, he struck his 14-month-old child.  The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.  Griffith says this is a harshreminder for parents to always try to keep an eye on your children…

The Slidell Police Department has made an arrest in the strange case of a man who stole a company check to pay for a prostitute while at work.  Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says video surveillance caught the entire incident.  He says the cameras caught 24-year-old Charles West talking with a female customer and then the two went into a back room of the business where the woman performed oral sex on West.  Afterwards, West took a company check, forged the manager’s signature, and gave it to the woman.  Seuzeneau says Slidell Police were waiting for West when he arrived at work Wednesday morning…

An extremely tragic story out of Bossier City. A man apparently ran over his 14 month old daughter on accident as he was pulling out of the driveway according to police. Sgt. Brian Griffith says 28-year-old Damion Dacaldacal was looking for his kids to take them to daycare when he hit something with his truck — it was his one year old child. He says the father quickly called authorities…:

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s office says a LaPlace woman is under arrest for allegedly running an illegal dog rescue operation out of her home. They say 46-year-old Joyce Charles had 50 dogs taken from her home in May that were living in disgusting conditions and at that time she was told to stop operating rescue in her home. But investigators say she didn’t listen and kept taking in animals. She was arrested this week after Animal Control issued a search warrant and found 10 more dogs in her residence. She is booked with cruelty to animals and improper zoning use.
