Businesses along Bourbon Street are gearing up for a huge weekend ahead of the Super Bowl. Andrew Greenstein talked with the manager of one of those businesses.

A second stain of bird flu has been detected in dairy cows in Nevada. This strain had only been detected in wild bird and poultry, but it’s now it has spilled into cows. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the good news is that the virus has not yet been detected in the state’s commercial poultry operations.

A man in southwest Louisiana died earlier this year from the bird flu. He was infected with the same strain of bird flu detected in cattle in Nevada.

Strain emphasized that recovery will take time, requiring the raising of new chicks, restocking poultry houses, and vaccinating hens.

While no cases have been found in Louisiana’s poultry industry, Strain says they have to stay on top of the situation.

Lauren Daigle and New Orleans own Trombone Shorty will perform America the Beautiful prior to kick off. Daigle, a Lafayette native and Grammy-winning Christian music artist says she’s always loved this song…

Trombone Shorty, a New Orleans jazz musician, brings a signature brass sound noted they are blending his and Daigles signature styles to the stage.

The New Orleans French Quarter is filling up with football fans. Huge crowds are expected through Super Bowl Sunday. Kelly Henderson, the manager at Fat Catz Music Club on Bourbon Street, says he’s treating Super Bowl week like Mardi Gras.

Cut 9 (05)  “…hope and pray.”

Businesses up and down Bourbon Street are looking for this week to make up for a tough January, when they had to close several days due to the New Year’s Day attack and the snowstorm. Henderson says he doesn’t look at Super Bowl week as a way to make up for lost time.

Cut 10 (10) “…slow us down.”

Bourbon Street has been transformed into a full-time pedestrian mall for this week, and there’s renewed talk of transforming it into a pedestrian mall permanently. Businesses had pushed back on that in the past. But Henderson says he’d support it under one condition.

Super Bowl 59 is almost here as the Philadelphia Eagles try to win their second Super Bowl. Former Amite star Devonta (duh-VAWN-tay) Smith was in his second season when Philadelphia lost to Kansas City in Super Bowl 57. Smith says they are not looking to over perform this time…

The Chiefs are known for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but they also have an elite defense. Smith on what makes K-C so good on defense…

There is certainly Kansas City Chiefs fatigue heading into the Super Bowl. K-C is seeking to win the Super Bowl for a record third consecutive year and this is there fifth appearance in the game in six years. Safety Justin Reid from Dutchtown High School in Ascension Parish likes playing the villain in this game…

A routine traffic stop on Hwy 59 in Mandeville lead to the discovery of a suspected crack cocaine lab. A post on St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Facebook page says during the stop of 55-year-old Raymond Matos Authorities found 1.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, over three thousand dollars cash. Investigators then searched Mato’s home and seized the measuring cups, a microwave after finding more than a half-pound of suspected cocaine; approximately 4 grams of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia including scales, glass pipes, packaging material; and $9,000 cash.

The French Quarter will have its busiest weekend since New Year’s Day which ended tragically with the terror attack on Bourbon Street that killed 14 people. That event and the snowstorm led to lower business sales in January. But Kelly Henderson, manager at Fat Catz Music Club on Bourbon Street says he’s more upset about the lives lost…

Egg prices are soaring as a result of the bird flu, which has resulted in fewer chickens that can lay eggs. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says it will take some time to restock poultry houses and vaccinate the hens…

Louisiana leaders are increasingly concerned about bird flu following the USDA’s confirmation of a second strain in U.S. dairy cattle.  But Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the virus has not yet been detected in the state’s commercial poultry operations.

A non-profit organization is teaming up with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office on an anti-human trafficking operation during Super Bowl Week. Andrew Greenstein reports.

A lieutenant with State Police has been arrested following an off-duty domestic violence incident. Baton Rouge Police took into custody last night 40-year-old James Jefferson the Third. He was booked with domestic abuse battery, with child endangerment. Jefferson has been employed by State Police since 2007.

Security is tight in the French Quarter as more visitors have arrived for Super Bowl 59. Louisiana National Guard soldiers are patrolling Bourbon Street and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says federal resources are also on the ground…

Barriers are also up to limit vehicle traffic, especially in the Bourbon Street area.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the nonprofit group In Our Backyard to host anti-trafficking operations during Super Bowl Week. Human traffickers often use major events like the Super Bowl to exploit vulnerable people, especially children. Cheryl Csiky (“Chicky”), the executive director of In Our Backyard, says human trafficking is not the same as kidnapping or human smuggling.

During Super Bowl Week in Las Vegas last year, 16 missing children were found safe.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly says the comments made by Greg Brooks Senior on ABC’s Good Morning America struck a nerve with him. Brooks Senior alleged that Kelly and the LSU coaching staff has not reached out to his son since October 23rd. Former LSU safety Greg Brooks Junior now struggles to walk and talk after surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. During a press conference on Wednesday, Kelly says he visited Brooks on multiple occasions.…

The Brooks family is suing LSU and Our Lady of the Lake regional medical center claiming the mishandled the emergency surgery performed on the former LSU defensive back.

Former Saints defensive back C-J Gardner Johnson will be playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl as he’s a member of the Eagles defensive secondary. New Orleans traded Johnson prior to the start of the 2022 season….

LSU football coach Brian Kelly vehemently denies the accusation he was not there for former Tigers safety Greg Brooks Junior following his brain surgery. According to Brooks’ family, the surgery to remove a tumor, resulted in multiple seizures that left him permanently disabled. In an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, Brooks’ father says no one from LSU’s coaching staff has reached out since October 2023, right after the surgery

Brooks’ family filed a lawsuit last year against LSU and Our of the Lady Lake Hospital claiming both the university and medical providers mishandled the diagnosis of his tumor and the surgery.

Security is ramping up in New Orleans as football fans, celebrities, and other visitors begin to pack the French Quarter and surrounding areas for Super Bowl 59. The F-A-A has designated the downtown area as a no-drone zone area. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick…

Anti-human trafficking operations are also ramping as the Super Bowl and the amount of people it brings in, opens the door to the exploitation of vulnerable people. Executive director of,In Our Backyard Cheryl Csiky says the group offers actionable tips and gathering intelligence on suspected human trafficking activity…

Cisky says during this ten-day operation, they have already turned in 27 instances of suspected human trafficking.

Even though Ruston is several miles from New Orleans, Williams says it will still be special stepping onto sports’ biggest stage in his college home state.
