An anonymous tip has led authorities to the largest cocaine seizure in the history of Plaquemines Parish. Sheriff’s Office Commander Eric Becnel says they seized more than 200 pounds of pure cocaine, with an estimated street value of 18 million dollars. He says the discovery would have never happened without someone coming forward about some suspicious packages…

The alleged Sunset cop-killer and the stabber of four others-where one woman died-was found unresponsive in his jail cell today, and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office report that Harrison Lee Riley was taken to the hospital. Authorities say Riley appeared to be ok when he was checked out by the medical staff. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz suspects Riley was just faking it, but they didn’t want to take any chances.

The St. Landry Sheriff’s Office says the suspect accused of killing Sunset Police officer Henry Nelson and stabbing a woman to death earlier this week was found unresponsive in his cell Friday morning. They say Harrison Riley, Jr. was found breathing but would not respond to verbal commands. Riley was checked out at a local hospital and is said to be fine. Authorities believe Riley was faking it.

Monroe-based Centurylink announces plans to bring high-speed internet to more than 24-thousand rural households and businesses in Louisiana. Centurylink Senior vice-president John Jones says they have accepted money from the Federal Communications Commission to get this work done…

They say hunters discovered the body of 33-year-old Jody Barlow of Starks near the Sabine River. Authorities have ruled the death a homicide. The exact cause of death is pending the coroner’s investigation.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Stonewall man accused of molesting a juvenile. Authorities say they received a complaint alleging that 55-year-old Ronald Yates had touched the juvenile victim in an inappropriate manner. During questioning, Yates confessed to the crime and admitted to inappropriate activity with another juvenile. Yates is charged with two counts of molestation of a juvenile. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Many people are turning their thoughts to 10 years ago when Hurricane Katrina descended on the Gulf Coast. Louisiana’s Governor at the time, Kathleen Blanco, says the thing she suffers from the most about the response effort is that they couldn’t do enough, fast enough in a short period of time…
