A Doyline couple is facing 72 counts of aggravated animal cruelty after finding a dozen dogs abandoned on a rural road and many more living in rough conditions at the home.  Sean Richardson has more.

The LSU women’s basketball team defeated Florida 101 to 87 in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. The 101 points are the most by an LSU team in the SEC Tournament Aneesah Morrow had 36 points and 14 rebounds. LSU will play Texas in the semifinals.

This is Williams’ first job as a college coach. But he was a successful defensive coordinator at Ruston High after a 13 year career in the NFL with the Bills.

Number one ranked LSU baseball, who is 13-and-1 on the season, will host North Alabama for a three game series tonight. It’s the final non-conference weekend series for the Tigers. Kade Anderson starts on the hill for LSU. The Lions of North Alabama are just three and eight on the season.

The Ragin Cajuns host 21st ranked Dallas Baptist this weekend.

Baton Rouge Police say the death of Southern University student Caleb Wilson was caused by repeated punches to his chest while he was pledging Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Chief Thomas Morse says Caleb McCray who turned himself in is charged with criminal hazing and manslaughter. More arrests are expected. Southern University President Dennis Shields says the Baton Rouge campus chapter of Omega Psi Phi is ordered to cease all activities, and other fraternities on campus are also affected.

A 19-year-old Shreveport man, Christian D. Efferson, turned himself in after allegedly stealing a car during a test drive in Slagle. He drove off from a gas station, leaving the seller behind. Another person fled in their vehicle. The stolen car was later recovered. Efferson faces a $20,000 bond.

Deputies ensured the remaining animals at Crowley’s home received food and water, with LaMa Rescue stepping in to assist. Parker says it’s a bad situation.

A Doyline woman faces 72 counts of aggravated animal cruelty after deputies linked her to the abandonment of over 12 dogs on Dement Road. 58-year-old Kimberly Crowley was arrested at her mobile home, where authorities found about 60 more dogs living in inhumane conditions. Some were confined in overcrowded cages without food or water. Webster Sheriff Jason Parker says Crowley was not licensed and selling dogs online

Within the last hour, Baton Rouge Police gave an update on the death of Southern University student Caleb Wilson. Chief Thomas Morse says Caleb McCray was among members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity who repeatedly punched Wilson in the chest during a pledging ritual. McCray is charged with manslaughter and criminal hazing.

A hearing is underway in federal court in Baton Rouge aimed at halting the execution of Jessie Hoffman. Colleen Crain reports.

Senators Mike Fesi of Houma and Patrick McMath of Covington will be introducing a bill this session that would ban fluoride in drinking water. McMath points to a study that found that fluoride concentration that exceeds 1.5 milligrams per liter can cause health issues.

One of the reports McMath was alluding to was one done last August by the National Toxicology Program. Felicia Rabito, a professor of epidemiology at Tulane University, says that report is problematic in its methodology.

Rabito says even if the report is accepted as fact, it’s irrelevant because it cites a fluoride concentration level that’s more than twice the EPA recommended level.

A hearing is happening in federal court aimed at delaying the execution of Jessie Hoffman. The Promise of Justice Initiative is trying to prove that using nitrogen hypoxia as a method of execution amounts to cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of the 8th Amendment. Hoffman is scheduled to be executed March 18th. As such, Loyola University New Orleans law professor Dane Ciolino says he expects Chief Judge Shelly Dick to issue a ruling very quickly.
