One of the most popular annual events in the state gets underway this weekend. The Angola Prison Rodeo, dubbed The Wildest Show in the South, takes place every year on Sundays in October and there are 5 in 2016. Angola spokesperson Gary Young says it’s more than just inmates riding bulls…:

The Louisiana National Guard says the bunker that exploded at Camp Minden operated the way it was designed to handle such a blast, as it contained and controlled the M6 propellant. Matt Harris with Louisiana State Police says no people or property were hurt in the explosion…:

Explosive Service International is responsible for the destruction of all 15 million pounds of explosives being stored at Camp Minden.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office says area schools are on a “soft lock down” because of what they call nonspecific social media threats that may be linked to clown sightings. They say initial indications show that this message may have also circulated in south Louisiana yesterday. Deputies are on higher alert than usual and extra patrols in Rapides Parish have been dispatched to keep watches on schools.

Tomorrow night will be the first time LSU interim head coach Ed Orgeron will get to show whether he has what it takes to turn the season around. Halen Doughty reports…:

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Matthew could become a major hurricane later today or tonight. They say it’s continued to strengthen overnight to become Category 2. On the forecast path, Matthew would not threaten the Gulf of Mexico. It could be a threat to the US East Coast next week.

New flood insurance rates are going into effect today and it means good news for the three southeast Louisiana parishes impacted. Officials say with the new maps, residents in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes can expect flood insurance to be more affordable than ever. But FEMA Assistant Administrator, David Maurstad, says even though they’ve improved flood control infrastructure in these areas, it’s still a risk for flooding…:

New FEMA flood maps go into effect today impacting three southeast Louisiana parishes. FEMA Assistant Administrator, David Maurstad, says 60-thousand homeowners who are currently in the high risk mandatory purchase area are moving to a low to moderate risk, which means flood insurance is no longer federally required by lenders and residents might be eligible for lower rates on their policy…:

President Obama has signed a federal assistance package that contains $400 million for flood recovery efforts in Louisiana. Lafayette parish president Joel Robideaux sits on the Recovery Louisiana Taskforce, and he says they hope to have more information about when the aid will be available to people in the coming weeks. He says the taskforce is also looking into bridge loans from banks.

The Louisiana Economic Outlook report by LSU’s Dr. Loren Scott shows the state will lose 17-thousand jobs this year because of low oil prices. Scott says the state has been in a recession since August of 2015.

The sky was ablaze this morning in Webster Parish when a bunker full of explosives being stored at Cam Minden went off. The Louisiana State Police’s hazmat team determined that Clean Burning Ignitor auto-ignited in the earth covered bunker it was stored in, and the bunker was destroyed. Approximately 320-thousand pounds of CBI was initially stored in three bunkers. No one was injured in the explosion.

A video of a Louisiana man dancing in the delivery room around his pregnant wife has gone viral. The DeSoto Parish dancing daddy, 29-year-old Sky Jones, says he made the video to cheer up the people in his hometown, after a man was shot and killed a few days before.

One man is behind bars and another is wanted after they posed as FEMA personnel. Police say 47-year-old Deshaun Harness and another man knocked on the door of a home in Tangipahoa parish claiming they worked for FEMA. They then allegedly produced a handgun and pushed their way into the home, shooting one of the residents in the stomach and critically wounding him.

Four hundred million dollars has been approved for flood recovery in Louisiana, and President Obama has signed the aid package. Lafayette parish president Joel Robideaux says flood victims are asking when the aid will arrive, and officials still can’t answer that question.

Robideaux says they will hopefully know more in the next couple of weeks.

A video of a Louisiana man has gone viral. 29-year-old Sky Jones posted a video on Facebook of him dancing around his pregnant wife in the delivery room. Jones says he didn’t expect the video to go viral, but he’s gotten a positive reaction to the post.

Lafayette City-Parish president Joel Robideaux, who sits on the Recovery Louisiana Task Force, says right now flood victims are waiting for answers…:

He says the task force hopes to have a solution soon.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man they say posed as a FEMA agent and forced his way into a residence where he shot the homeowner. They say 47-year-old Deshaun Harness and another man told a woman at the door she needed to sign some FEMA forms, and that’s when one of them held pulled a handgun and shot a man who lived there. Harness was captured Wednesday and charged with attempted murder charges. Authorities are still looking for the other man.

State Police say a 68-year-old Denham Springs man died this morning in a head-on crash in Livingston Parish. They say it happened as Harold Bergeron was traveling on Highway 190 in Denham Springs then went to turn into a subdivision into the path of another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Bergeron sustained life threatening injuries and later died at a local hospital. The other driver sustained serious injuries in the crash.

The job outlook in Louisiana this year isn’t too good for much of the state as the latest numbers show the state is set to lose 17,000 positions. LSU economist Dr. Loren Scott says job growth will remain flat in Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria and New Orleans, while Baton Rouge and Lake Charles will see employment gains because of the industrial boom…:

He says the struggle in Houma/Thibodaux/Acadiana is due to low oil prices. Scott doesn’t believe the flooding will impact the economy but will create an uptick in construction employment.

The Thibodaux Police Department says a man is under arrest after cops say he threatened to blow up a law enforcement building. They say 59-year-old Monty Savoy of Thibodaux was at a bank when he tried to get into a political discussion with an employee and threatened to blow up the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with Communicating False Information of Planned Arson.

The sky was lit up early this morning over Camp Minden as a storage bunker filled with M6 propellant exploded. The National Guard says crews have been working around the clock to get rid of these millions of pounds of this improperly stored material, and they’ve done about 6.2 million so far. Minden Representative Gene Reynolds says this could happen again…:

A Desoto Parish man said he wanted to bring a smile to the faces of his northwest Louisiana community, so he posted a now viral video of him dancing around his wife’s bed as she was in labor to “The Baby Momma Dance.” 29-year-old Sky Jones says he made the video to cheer up the people in his hometown…:

An explosion rocked Louisiana National Guard’s Camp Minden in Webster Parish around 5:00 this morning. The blast, which created a bright light in the sky, occurred in a storage area where crews are destroying 15 million pounds of M6 propellant. Officials say no one was injured. State Police is investigating the cause.

Dr. Loren Scott’s latest economic outlook shows Louisiana will lose 17-thousand jobs this year. He says that’s due to low oil prices and the big problem in the Lafayette and Houma areas is the decline of working oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico…:

Forecasters have upgraded the named storm Matthew to a hurricane. The The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Matthew continues its march westward in the Caribbean Sea. The Category One storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour. Forecast models show the storm then taking a turn directly to the north, possibly impacting Jamaica, Haiti, or Cuba before coming close to the U.S. eastern seaboard.

An explosion lit up the sky at Camp Minden in Webster Parish around 5:00 this morning. The Louisiana National Guard reports a storage bunker filled with M6 propellant exploded. Crews have been working around the clock to destroy these explosives, which were improperly stored several years ago. Minden Representative Gene Reynolds says thankfully no one was injured..:

A state judge has released graphic police body camera video of the fatal shooting of a six-year-old autistic boy in Marksville last November. The video shows two deputy city marshals firing their weapon at a car, one of the bullets killed Jeremy Mardis and severdly wounded Christopher Few. Defense attorneys have said Few rammed his car into the deputy’s vehicle before he fired, but legal analyst Tim Meche says that’s not what the video shows…
