Just over half of the Louisiana residents polled say the state is heading in the wrong direction. A University of New Orleans Survey Research Center surveyed about 600 likely voters and 51-percent are pessimistic about the state’s future. But UNO Pollster Ed Chervenak says 35-percent say the state is moving in the right direction and that’s a 15-percent increase over last year…:

The Baton Rouge Police Department says the man they believe shot and critically injured his wife before killing himself had been suffering from depression. They say 34-year-old Tyronne Cincore fired several rounds into his wife’s chest, then shot himself once in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Cincore’s wife was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

A Jena mother has been arrested for the death of her six-year-old daughter who perished in a house fire earlier this week. The state Fire Marhsal’s Office says they’ve learned the mother was shooting up drugs in an abandoned house when the fire started. Twenty-nine-year-old Wendy Blasingame has been charged with negligent homicide.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating an apparent attempted murder-suicide incident where a husband allegedly shot and critically injured his wife, then killed himself. They say the husband is identified as 34-year-old Tyronne Cincore, and the wife is 35-year-old Sereathia.

A Korean War veteran from Crowley is finally laid to rest in his Louisiana hometown today. Army Sgt. First Class Lawrence Smith died 65 years ago in a prisoner of war camp in North Korea. Alex Juan with the State Department of Veteran’s Affairs says they are so happy to welcome Smith home. She hopes this brings his family peace…:

Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick says a grand jury has returned an indictment for first-degree murder against Joshua Every for the killing of Raising Canes manager Taylor Friloux in Kenner. He said in a news release that his office has decided to seek the death penalty. Friloux died on June 29th after being stabbed multiple times during an armed robbery of the business.

Records continue to be broken in Louisiana after three days of early voting in the 2016 Presidential election. According to JMC Analytics, as of yesterday, previous early voting periods don’t even compare to the nearly 230,000 people who have thus far already cast a ballot. That’s a 67% increase over 2012.

Republican John Kennedy is shown in another poll to have a strong lead in the US Senate Race at 22-percent. It’s out of the University of New Orleans and UNO pollster Ed Chervenak says in order for Republican Charles Boustany to make the runoff over #2 in the poll, Democrat Foster Campbell, he’ll likely have to go on the attack…:

Today, Camp Minden officials will begin burning off volatile explosives that are stored in three bunkers at the Louisiana National Guard Facility in Webster Parish. Col. Ed Bush says they plan on burning one of three bunkers today….:

The Edwards Administration says it hasn’t yet decided how to deal with the hole, but they want to hear from different departments about what cuts of that size would make their operation look like.

The family of a 6-year-old autistic boy who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Avoyelles parish is suing the city of Marksville. Jeremy Mardis was killed by police when officers open fired on his father’s vehicle. The suit reportedly claims city officials improperly trained officers to use deadly force, and alleges that the officers did nothing to alleviate the boy’s suffering.

More bad budget news for Louisiana. The books are balanced from last fiscal year and the state ended up with a 313-million dollar deficit. That has resulted in the Edwards administration asking state agencies and colleges to prepare for budget cuts of seven to ten percent. Lagging business tax collections is the reason for the deficit and it’s still not clear how state officials will address this shortfall. Dollars from the the rainy day fund might be used to soften the budget cuts.

NOAA issues a report that finds Americans ate nearly a pound more seafood in 2015 than in the previous year. Halen Doughty has more…

Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, Karen Profita, says the short supply of shrimp could lead to frustrations among consumers because seafood is becoming more of an everyday meal.

An analysis of early voting turnout by JMC Analytics finds over 162-thousand people have already voted in the 2016 election after only two days. Pollster John Couvillon says voter turnout will be more front-loaded this year. He believes people are more eager to get it out of the way.

A Market Research Insight poll finds in the U.S. Senate race, Republicans John Kennedy and Charles Boustany are neck and neck within one percent of each other. Pollster Verne Kennedy says Democrat Foster Campbell is at 14-percent and the reason Democrat Caroline Fayard is behind Campbell at 12-percent is because she isn’t getting support from white Democrats.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested 61-year-old Tommy Francis of Plaquemine for two cold case murders from 1990 and 2002. Sheriff Brett Stassi says both cases are featured on the Discovery channel show Killing Fields and publicity like this helps witnesses come forward. He says the families of Curtis Smith and George Barrett have been waiting for justice.

The Baton Rouge River Center has been renamed the Raising Cane’s River Center. The Baton Rouge based food chain signed a 10-year naming rights deal worth 4 million dollars.
