The ACLU of Louisiana is reacting to reports about a man who was arrested in Lafayette and charged with “flag desecration.” Charri Mohama was booked for allegedly being shown on tape burning an American flag, and tearing up another. In a release, the ACLU of Louisiana says it is not a crime to destroy or damage the flag.

Former KKK Grand Wizard and U.S. Senate candidate David Duke is expected to be at protest in Jackson Square today where the activist group, Take Em Down NOLA, will push to remove the statue of Andrew Jackson. Duke’s website says he will be pushing to keep the monument up. But group member Malcom Suber says their position has always been to remove any monuments that represent white supremacy.

Hunters for the Hungry is hosting their annual Cleanout your Freezer day tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. for hunters to donate last season’s game before the start of hunting season. H-F-H Executive Director Jimmy Anthony says there are 12 collection sites and to find one in your area visit hunters-the-number-4-hungry-louisiana-dot-org (hunters4hungrylouisiana.org). He says they are not collecting any meat over a year old.

Over 100-thousand dollars has been donated to Livingston Parish Schools to help in the flood recovery process. Superintendent Rick Wentzel says the St. Tammany Parish School System really stepped up to help. He also says they received a massive donation from a big named celebrity.

The Louisiana Department of Health has updated the number of Zika and West Nile cases in the state. There are now 26 confirmed cases of West Nile in Louisiana so far this year. There were no deaths linked to West Nile in 2016. There are 31 confirmed Zika cases in the state so far. All of the cases of Zika virus were travel related and there has been no local transmission.

New Orleans attorney and chairwoman of the council, Jennifer Coco, says the main reasons students are getting suspended is being disrespectful or disobedient. But she says she doesn’t believe kicking a student out of school will teach them to be more respectful.

Buckwheat Zydeco, legendary accordionist and singer, passed away this morning of lung cancer at the age of 68. Stanley Dural, Jr, better known as Buckwheat, helped to introduce the Louisiana Zydeco music to the world. He performed during the 1996 summer Olympics closing ceremony, President Bill Clinton’s inauguration, and was featured on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Dural was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of 2013.

After donating thousands of dollars to flood damaged schools in Louisiana, Taylor Swift is helping even more students get back in the classroom. Livingston Parish School System officials say the pop megastar is donating $50-thousand to help with the rebuilding process. Swift has already made similar donations in Ascension parish and Central.

Congressman Garret Graves says he’s frustrated that the proposal to get federal aid to flood victims is wrapped up in politics. The money is part of a short-term budget fix and is earmarked as disaster assistance for several states. Graves says this money would be spread across 16 different major disasters.

Graves says the $500 million in the aid package will not go far enough to help the tens of thousands of people in need.

Hunters for the Hungry is asking people to donate last year’s meat before stocking up this year during their annual “Clean Out Your Freezer Day.” HFH Executive Director Jimmy Anthony says the Baton Rouge Food Bank typically stores the meat, but there isn’t room for it this year after the flooding. He says a New Orleans Food Bank will be collecting the food instead, and they will also be collecting canned goods.

A Lake Charles man is wanted by police for breaking into a dorm and exposing his genitals to three women in downtown Baton Rouge. Authorities say 47-year-old Scotty Thompson knocked on the door of a home and had a brief conversation with a woman before showing his genitals to her then running off. Thompson then went into another apartment and began talking to a second women and flashed her and continued to expose himself to a third woman sleeping in the same home.

Livingston Parish Schools have received more than $100,000 in donations, grants and gifts to assist teachers, staff and students with flood recovery efforts. Superintendent Rick Wentzel says the St. Tammany Parish Public School System and their surrounding communities stepped up in a huge way…:

State education officials revoked a license for an early learning center in St. Helena Parish Friday, terminating the center’s public funding. According to the state Department of Education, the termination comes after complaints that employees at Blooming Faces Daycare in Greensburg took children, including infants, on a “walking excursion” on a busy highway with no sidewalk.

Authorities said a missing Greensburg teenager thought to be in danger has been found and is safe. The missing child advisory has been cancelled.

The public is being asked to help find a missing teenager that authorities think may be in danger. Louisiana State Police issued a missing child advisory. Investigators said they think 16-year-old Angel Mason of Greensburg is with a 35 to 40-year-old man, and they have reason to believe she is in danger. Troopers said they believe she is riding in a white 2003 Pontiac Montana minivan. They are asking folks to be on the lookout.
