The stripper age requirement bill advanced out of a Senate Committee today but it no longer requires that strippers must be 21 years old to be hired by an adult entertainment club. The minimum age is at least 18 under the proposed law and it also calls for establishments to undergo human trafficking training. Lake Charles Senator Ronnie Johns still supports his bill even with significant changes.

A Ville Platte deputy city marsal has been arrested for two counts of promoting prostitution. Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office chief deputy, Chris Ivey, says Arthur Lee Phillips had sex with a prositute and then solicited her to other me and kept the earnings….

An inmate who is behind bars for over 180 days might not have to pay child support payments under a bill approved by a House Committee. Gretna Representative Joe Marino says child support payments would still be required if the inmate has the means to pay it, committed a crime against the other parent or if they are in jail, because they are a deadbeat parent…

The goal of Marino’s measure is to lessen the debt an offender faces once they are released from jail, so they have a better chance at staying out of prison.

A Lafayette man who was born in an Indonesian refugee camp and doesn’t have a birth certificate has filed a lawsuit, because he’s unable to marry his fiancee.

Kimmel recently gave an emotional monologue about how surgery saved his new baby’s life, who was born with a heart defect. Inmates severing time in Louisiana prisons wouldn’t have to pay child support under a measure that cleared the House Civil Law committee today. While speaking to a representative with the Department of Children and Family Services, Carencro Representative Julie Emerson says an offender is more likely to discuss child support payments, if don’t have huge debts.:

The aim is encourage ex-inmates to find jobs upon release without having to deal with a bunch of child support debt.

A bill that would use riverboat gambling revenue to help fund the TOPS scholarship was shelved today in a House committee. State Representative Franklin Foil of Baton Rouge decided to voluntarily defer the measure after hearing concerns of committee members, including one that stated TOPS is already fully funded under the House-approved budget bill awaiting Senate consideration.

The stripper age requirement bill advanced with significant amendments out of a Senate committee today. The changes reverted the age limit to work as an exotic dancer back to 18 instead of 21, but requirements were added that would mean strip clubs have to train how to spot human trafficking. New Orleans Senator JP Morrell offered the change and said he and Johns are on the same page with the intent of this bill…:

The amendment on the human trafficking training also says that failure to comply would result in revocation of beverage license.

Governing magazine’s analysis of federal data finds Louisiana’s median hourly wage fell by 0.5 percent to $15.43 last year. LSU economist Dr. Loren Scott says the state has lost a lot of high paying jobs in the oil and gas industry since 2015, so it’s not really a surprise…:
