Lawmakers are playing the blame game as they enter the special session. House Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says the House tried to negotiate with Governor Edwards on the budget, and he wanted all or nothing. He says that seems to be the governor’s strategy these days.

In the chaos of the final minutes of the session, New Orleans Senator Karen Carter Peterson told Haughton Representative Dodie Horton to shut the f up. Horton says several lawmakers heard the comment from the chairwoman of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

Horton says Peterson apologized via text, but she has yet to respond.

Horton told 710 KEEL in Shreveport that Peterson apologized later, but says the ordeal was embarrassing and shameful….

House Republicans say Peterson should lose her chairmanship of a Senate committee for cursing at another legislator.

The Livingston Parish man accused of killing a massage therapist says he killed the Baton Rouge woman after she tried to steal his wallet. That’s according to the police report released today. Christopher Landry, who allegedly murder of Kayla Denham, says he paid 140-dollars for a massage and a sexual favor. Sheriff Jason Ard says the evidence they collected, doesn’t match what Landry said.

The big dispute is over how much to spend from the funds that are available. The House wants to hold 200-million dollars back in case there’s a midyear shortfall. The man accused of killing a massage therapist in Denham Springs reportedly told police she tried to rob him. Police say 22-year-old Christopher Landry told them he left the room and returned to find 24-year-old Kayla Denham stealing from him. That’s when he says he picked up a pipe, hit her in the head, and strangled her. Sheriff Jason Ard says the evidence does not support that story.

Shut the f up are not words you’d expect to hear on the House floor. But that’s exactly what New Orleans Senator Karen Carter Peterson said to Haughton Representative Dodie Horton in the final minutes of the regular session. Horton says several lawmakers heard the comment from the chairwoman of the Louisiana Democratic Party.

The Livingston Parish man accused of murdering a massage therapist has told authorities that the woman tried to rob him after paying her for a massage and sexual favor. That’s according to a probable cause report. Sheriff Jason Ard says it’s still an active investigation and they must rely on evidence to find the truth. Christopher Landry has been charged in the death of Kayla Ann Denham.

The blame game is going on right now between the governor and House Republican leaders over who is responsible for the special session. The House and Senate couldn’t come to an agreement on a budget before the regular session ended at 6. Governor Edwards says both sides are going to have to give a little to come up with a solution…:

But House Republican leaders say they don’t appreciate Edwards’ all or nothing type approach.

A teen in Union Parish is dead following what authorities call a tragic accidental shooting. They say deputies responded around 1pm Thursday afternoon to a location where they found a 14-year-old boy in the woods target shooting with an older sibling when he was shot once in the head. Investigators believe a .22-caliber rifle caused the wound.

And a reminder if you’re headed to New Orleans this weekend > Both Eastbound lanes of I-10 will be closed between Sorrento and Gramercy from 9 tonight through Monday morning at the latest.

State leaders are pointing fingers at who’s to blame for the fourth special session of Governor John Bel Edwards’ term. On the final day of the legislative session, legislators failed to pass a budget, but they approved legislation that would grant inmates who were convicted of murder while they were juveniles a chance at parole after 25 years. Some legislators wanted to push parole eligibility to 30 years, but New Orleans Representative Gary Carter says there’s no law they could pass to give the victims back what they lost….

Another special session has started at the State Capitol, after lawmakers failed to pass a budget for next fiscal year. Governor John Bel Edwards says it’s a sad day in Louisiana, and the options before the Capitol won’t be any different in the special than they were in the regular session…:

The House wanted to spend less than the Senate in case of a midyear shortfall.

Murderers convicted as juveniles will be eligible for parole after 25 years, as a bill by Baton Rouge Senator Dan Claitor wins final passage. But Albany Representative Sherman Mack said victims prefer 30 years:

The measure with 25 years finally passed on a 67 to 34 vote.

A man accused of dragging a pit bull to its death behind a pickup truck in the Slidell area in late May has been arrested, even though authorities believe it was an accident. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says 50-year-old Willis Brailey apparently didn’t know the dog had fallen out of the bed of the truck, and he’s been charged with simple cruelty to animals. The dog was sent to LSU for a necropsy in order to confirm the cause of death.
