Maness received over 200,000 votes in the November 4th election. He says he’d consider another run for office if he felt called to do so…

Maness had the best finish of a non-politician in a Senate race in recent memory. He has endorsed fellow Republican Bill Cassidy in December’s Senate runoff election. Maness says he and Cassidy have talked about their differences and feels he is the right person for the job…

Baton Rouge PD says an active-military officer is under arrest after allegedly trying to run over her fiance while their one year old infant was in the car. Cpl. Don Coppola says 24-year-old Mictissa Moseley (mOHz-lee) was a passenger in the vehicle when she and her fiance, who was driving, got into a huge fight…:

Coppola says Moseley demanded that her fiance, who is also an active military officer, get out of the vehicle. He says at that time the victim left the car and called for a ride…:(Moseley was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison for attempted second degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile.)

Coppola says while the male victim was waiting for a ride, Moseley returned at a high rate of speed and tried to run him over while the baby was inside the car. The American Red Cross says heating sources are the second leading cause of home fire deaths, and fatal home fires increase in the winter months. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says if you use a space heater, make sure there’s a three feet area of space around it…

The data, which is based on 2012 numbers, indicates there were 27.5 AIDS cases per 100,000 people down from 29.4 the year prior. Johnson says there is a massive lack of education on this matter in the area and not enough people getting tested…:

The CDC says New Orleans was ranked fourth in the nation. Johnson says local HIV/AIDS organizations are working hard to continue to educate people about the disease and encouraging them to get tested. He says nobody can hide from HIV…:

Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols said in a statement that there is a hiring freeze in place and if additional reductions need to be made at the mid-year point then it will happen to make sure a balanced budget is in place. State Police is investigating a fiery two vehicle crash that has claimed the lives of three people in Terrebonne Parish. Trooper Evan Harrell says 19-year-old Jordan Mayon of Houma was driving north on LA-24 at a high rate of speed when his truck failed to negotiate an S-curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway, entering the southbound lanes of the highway…

Harrell says a truck, driven by 30-year-old Kendric Prince of Patterson, traveling south was unable to avoid Mayon’s truck and the two trucks collided. Harrell says, due to the nature of the impact, the two vehicles almost instantaneously caught fire…

Mayon, Prince, and 54-year-old Shannon Tassin, a passenger in Prince’s truck, were pronounced dead at the scene. Harrell says impairment is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing…

Five people dead, including three-children as a result of an overnight house fire in New Orleans. The three children that died range from ages seven to 12. The children’s father escaped uninjured, but he also lost his girlfriend and mother in the blaze. New Orleans Fire Chief Timothy McConnell says two-story home did not have smoke detectors

Carnline says 37-year-old Michael Haynes of Alexandria was the victim of a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on the scene. He says detectives responded as well as the crime scene unit…:

The Louisiana Poison Control Center is sending out a warning to parents about the dangers of laundry detergent pods which have harmed hundreds of children who mistake them for toys or candy. Director Mark Ryan says kids who ingest the concentrated detergent in these pods can very quickly have central nervous system depression and become lethargic:

Ryan says child exposure to cleaning products is one of the top reasons people call poison centers. He says one of the problems with these pods is that when they first came out they were in a clear container that looked almost like a candy jar…:

Thomas announced in 2007 that he was battling ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Tulane researchers determine eating shrimp from an area of the Gulf of Mexico impacted by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill poses no acute health risks or increased cancer risks. Research professor Mark Wilson says when the spill occurred, there were concerns that shrimp would be contaminated by a class of chemicals that can pose health hazards

The LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health has been awarded a $2.2 million grant to increase the availability of health information and support services for young breast cancer survivors in the Gulf South. Project Coordinator Helen McMillan says they were one of seven sites awarded grants from the CDC…

McMillan says the issues facing young women who diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 45 are much different from older women who are diagnosed. She says this program will provide support services and resources for these women…

She says they have partnered with the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Nursing to provide resources to breast cancer survivors in those states as well. Louisiana’s 2014 tax amnesty period comes to an end in one week. Department of Revenue Deputy Secretary Jarrod Coniglio says until 11:59 PM on November 14th, those who are behind on their taxes with the state, can settle their debt without a penalty and pay only 50-percent of the interest….

A former staffer for Democrats John Breaux and Kathleen Blanco says Mary Landrieu needs to change her message in order to have a chance at victory on December sixth. Bob Mann, who is currently an LSU Mass Communications Professor, says Landrieu’s message of clout and seniority in the US Senate doesn’t resonate with voters…

Political analyst Clancy Dubos says this is definitely a blow to the Landrieu campaign, but it’s merely a drop in the bucket of what’s expected to be spent in this election…

Dubos says political pundits predicted $50 million will be spent on this election, and this is only 4-percent of that total. Dubos says this move is not a death blow to Landrieu, but it still hurts…

The Opelousas Police Department has arrested a man accused of buying votes for certain candidates in the November 4th election. 64-year-old Wilfred Young is charged with bribery of voters. Sergeant Jody White says they received information during the early voting period that Young was soliciting votes…

Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell won for this third term on election night this week. The 67-year-old represents District 5 on the five-seat commission which regulates utility companies — which spans all of northern Louisiana and covers 24 parishes. Campbell is one of the last elected Democrats in the state but won across both parties:
