Meanwhile the initial investigative report in Gruver’s case has been released by LSU-PD. It states that the 18-year-old had been found unresponsive at the at the Phi Delta Theta house “after a night of drinking.” It also says that Gruver was driven to a hospital in a private vehicle where he was pronounced dead on September 13th. The coroner previously said it would be some weeks before tests came back showing how much alcohol Gruver had in his system.

A Breaux Bridge Police Officer is under arrest amid allegations he was engaging in sexual relations with a 16-year-old juvenile. State Police Master Trooper Brooks David says they investigated the case against 29-year-old Craig David…:

Officer David was charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, computer aided solicitation of a minor and malfeasance in office.

Hunters for the Hungry is hosting their annual “Clean out your Freezer Day” to benefit food banks throughout Louisiana. Hunters with leftover meat are encouraged to donate before they stock up this hunting season. H-F-H Executive Director Jimmy Anthony says the food is then donated…:

Good budget news for the state has been hard to find, but we finally found some. Governor John Bel Edwards says the state ended up with a 143-million dollar surplus for the fiscal year that ended June 30th. He says he’s having positive meetings with legislators and business leaders over how the state can replace the loss of temporary taxes that expire in July…:

Data from the USDA shows Louisiana is the second hungriest state in the nation. Bread for the World President David Beckmann says the hunger problem in the state is concentrated among African Americans where about 1 out of 3 families may run out of food for the month…:

Beckmann said there are several ways to reverse this trend by funding programs that support those in poverty.

In response to the death of fraternity pledge Maxwell Gruver, LSU is holding a Rally Against Hazing this afternoon on the steps of the Memorial Tower. LSU Student Government hopes to bring together student organizations, as well as individual students, so the campus can begin “honest and progressive conversations about putting an end to hazing.”

There’s some rare good budget news from the state. Governor John Bel Edwards announced Louisiana has about a $143 million dollar surplus from last fiscal year, but that doesn’t mean the money woes are over. Edwards says they are limited with what they can do with the extra dollars:

But the state can not use the surplus to help close an anticipated one-billion dollar budget gap next fiscal year.

There is a tragic story out of Denham Springs. Police say a 5-year-old child was run over and killed as he was running around the front of an ice cream truck after making a purchase. The driver did not see the child and no charges are filed.

Governor John Bel Edwards confirmed on his monthly call in radio show that Amazon is set to build a distribution center at a yet-to-be-determined location in Louisiana. He says once it comes online, it will be great, not only for the state, but for brick and mortar retailers as well…:

The Governor and First Lady Donna Edwards this morning announced the No Kid Hungry Louisiana initiative and School Breakfast Challenge to help reduce childhood hunger in the state. They say this will raise awareness of a serious hunger problem in the state, and engage the public and lawmakers. The USDA reported in 2014 that over 200,000 children continue to suffer from childhood hunger in Louisiana.

Louisiana Tech University has set an enrollment record for this fall as nearly 13-thousand students are taking classes. Jim King is the Vice President for Student Advancement says when you are listed on U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 Best Colleges list, it helps attracts students to your school..:

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says Louisiana ended last year with a $100 million dollar surplus, but that is not going to alleviate the next budget gap. He said the state collected more money that projected from taxes in the budget year that ended June 30th. But he said it’s not going to help with the $1 billion dollar gap next year, when temporary taxes expire.

Louisiana is among about a dozen states where chronic teacher absenteeism in traditional public schools is at least twice as high as it is in charter schools, according to the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. But Louisiana Federation of Teachers spokesperson Les Landon says the report also claims collective bargaining agreements lead to an increase in teacher absences..:

LSU is coming off an embarassing 30 point loss to Mississippi State, but Moran expects the Tigers to bounce back this Saturday and they performed well last season after losses with Orgeron at the helm.

The LSU baseball team is No. 5 in the 2017 Collegiate Baseball magazine recruiting rankings released on Wednesday. This is the 10th time in 11 years the Tigers are in the Top 10 of the survey. The 18-man recruiting class includes 11 pitchers and seven position players.

The 0-2 Saints are set to face the 2-0 Carolina Panthers this Sunday at noon. Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he’s confident the team can turn things around, as they’ve missed cues so far this season by only a small margin.

The Saints have only been able to convert on just 34.8 percent of its third-down attempts through the two games this season.

Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was not at practice Wednesday during the portion that was viewed by the media. It’s been reported Lattimore suffered a concussion. There’s also a report that vetern cornerback Sterling Moore suffered a pectoral injury and is expected to miss several weeks.

A Fordham Institute study finds 28-percent of public school teachers missed more than 10 days of work compared to charter school teachers at 10-percent. A former BREC Commissioner was found shot to death outside of his home in Pride at around 5:45 Tuesday night. East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks says when police arrived they attempted to resuscitate the man, 66-year-old Carroll Breeden, but he died at the scene:
