State Police say the troopers accused in taking an unauthorized side trip during state paid business travel last year have been disciplined, and LSP has concluded its administrative investigation. They say two ranking troopers, a captain and a lieutenant, have been demoted effective immediately, and two others have been reprimanded or counseled.

Early voting for the October 14th election is underway, and most people still don’t know about the race for state treasurer. LaPolitics.com Publisher Jeremy Alford says even donors aren’t writing checks. He says that’s partly because wealthy activists have just been through an active three year election cycle…:

There’s a report going around that Walk On’s Bistreaux & Bar will be the new title sponsor for the Independence Bowl. The I-Bowl Foundation invited the media to attend a special announcement tomorrow at the Walk-On’s in Shreveport. Former LSU running back, Jacob Hester, a partner in the restaurant tweeted that the establishment was the new sponsor, but has since deleted it.

After a bye week, the Ragin Cajuns get back to work as they’ll face Idaho for a four PM kick-off Saturday. UL-Lafayette started its season with a win over Southeastern Louisiana, but they’ve lost three straight, including a double-overtime defeat in their last game against ULM. A Baton Rouge business owner was in a shuttle near the Mandalay Bay Hotel as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on a country music concert. Allie Wester, owner of Weddings by Allie, is in town for a wedding planning conference and says suddenly a shuttle she was in suddenly sped off…:

State Police say its investigating a Ouachita Parish Sheriff officer involved shooting. They said deputies initiated a traffic stop and at some point the driver was shot and killed. No more information is available at this time.

The Lafayette Police Department has identified their officer who was killed in the line of duty last night as Corporal Michael Paul Middlebrook. They said Corporal Middlebrook leaves behind a wife, their three year old daughter and two step-daughters. State Police Trooper Brooks David says this is a tragedy:

The FBI says the man who is accused of killing 58 and injuring over 500 concertgoers in Las Vegas had no connection to an international terrorist group. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but former FBI agent and current Tulane Professor Jim Bernanzini says ISIL is using the mass shooting as a propaganda tool…:

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has released a statement regarding Louisiana’s next big concert event in light of the tragedy surrounding the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival in Las Vegas last night. They want to reassure those attending Flambeau Fest in Gonzales this weekend that they will be very safe, and the venue will include a coordinated effort between law enforcement, concert security and Lamar Dixon personnel.

One person is dead and another person was seriously wounded in a shooting that took place on I-20 in Shreveport just after midnight. Shreveport P-D Corporal Angie Willhite says it is believed they were shot by someone with a rifle..:

The driver, 22-year-old Kenyon Frazier, was shot multiple times and doctors say he has life-threatening injuries. The deceased person has not been identified.

Governor John Bel Edwards will issue an executive order lowering the Louisiana and American flags over all state public buildings effective today through Friday to honor those affected by last night’s shooting in Las Vegas.

State Police say a Lafayette Police Officer was shot and killed by a suspect last night at a gas station. Trooper Brooks David says someone fled on foot following the shooting, but no arrests have been announced at this time. He says two people inside the store were also shot and sustained non-life threatening injuries…:

We’re coming towards the end of the Atlantic hurricane season but that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Louisiana has seen some notable hurricanes in the month of October. He says Hurricane Juan hit our coast in 1985 from October 28th to the 31st…:

LSU’s homecoming celebration was ruined by Troy University, who came into Baton Rouge and upset the once mighty Tigers 24-21. The Trojans took control of the game with a turnover on the first offensive play and then a quick touchdown. At one point, Troy had a 17 point lead. Linebacker Devin White says it wasn’t fun to see Troy celebrate a victory on their home field…:

Shreveport Police say one person is dead and another injured following a shooting on I-20 east. They say officers located the driver of a vehicle, 22-year-old Kenyon Frazier, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, and he was sent to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger, not yet identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shots came from a small, dark colored vehicle, but no other information is available at this time. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police.

A Lafayette Police officer is dead and two others injured following a shooting last night at a gas station. State Police say the officer was responding to a report of an aggravated assault with a gun, then minutes later the call was upgraded to a shooting. The said gunfire was exchanged with the suspect when the cop was killed. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by Lafayette PD a short time later.

An LSU political science professor finds that proactive policing may be counter-productive as a deterrent to major crime. Christopher Sullivan studied a specific seven-week period when the New York Police Department halted aggressive policing against minor crimes, and data shows serious criminal activity dropped…:
