Ten LSU students were arrested today on hazing charges in connection with the death of fraternity pledge Maxwell Gruver.  Of the ten, one fraternity member Matthew Naquin  has been charged with hazing and negligent homicide.  Sean Pennison’s attorney Franz Borhardt says Gruver’s death will stay with Pennison for the rest of his life…

The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office has released the cause of death – an accident due to acute alcohol intoxication.  The initial autopsy report revealed that he had THC, the chemical found in marijuana.  Coroner Dr. Beau Clark won’t say it was confirmed in his findings…

His blood alcohol level was .495.

Former Saints and LSU Star Tracy Porter has been arrested on drug and domestic battery charges.  Baton Rouge Police Department Sgt. Don Coppola says the victim and the 31-year-old Porter had been in a relationship over the past couple of years…

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds Louisiana is ranked second in the country when it comes to the high rates of STDs for the third year in a row. Deputy Director for the Louisiana STD/HIV Program Chaquetta (Sha-que-taa) Johnson says chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis are the sexually transmitted diseases measured. She credits this increase to a few factors.

Ten LSU students face charges in connection with last month’s hazing death of 18-year-old Maxwell Gruver. All ten were booked on a misdemeanor hazing charge and Matthew Alexander Naquin (Nah-Can) is also charged with negligent homicide.  Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says Naquin was singled out due to his alleged role in the incident…

The lesser misdemeanor charges carry a 30 day sentence, however, Ciolino says if Naquin is found guilty of negligent homicide, he could be imprisoned for some time…

Law enforcement is cracking down on hazing around the country and Ciolino says they are intent on bringing justice to the victims…

Sean Pennison is one of the ten LSU students arrested as part of the investigation into Max Gruver’s death. His Attorney Franz Borghardt says it’s extremely hard for these students as Max was their friend. He says Pennison is not being charged with Gruver’s death, only hazing.

Borghardt says it’s disappointing that LSU decided to arrest these ten young men rather than issue a court summons for the misdemeanor. He says these students truly cared about Max.

Of the ten, one fraternity member, Matthew Naquin, has been charged with hazing and negligent homicide. Borghardt says Gruver’s death will stay with Pennison for the rest of his life.

The memo comes after many players have sat or taken a knee in protest during the pre-game tradition, attracting boycotts and criticism from even President Donald Trump. State lawmakers are planning a closed door meeting tomorrow to discuss ways they propose to close the $1 billion dollar budget gap. The shortfall will hit in July 1 when temporary taxes expire.

All ten are facing a misdemeanor hazing charge and Matthew Alexander Naquin is also charged with negligent homicide. Police reports indicated that Gruver died after a night of playing the drinking game “Bible Study” in which pledges are forced to drink if they answer questions about the fraternity incorrectly.

As a result of criminal justice reform measures passed in the last legislative session, 14-hundred inmates in Louisiana will be released early from prison in November.  Criminal Justice Reform Director for the Southern Poverty Law Center John Burkhart says no one convicted of sex crimes, manslaughter or murder will be released.  He says the new sentencing laws accelerate the release mechanism for inmates on good time parole…

The father for wounded East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier says his son is making remarkable progress.  Tullier was seriously injured during a police ambush in Baton Rouge in July 2016.   Nick has been moved from a rehab facility in Houston to Galveston.  His motor skills are beginning to improve.  James says his son is now able to make some small but important movements…

The LSU Police Department has made 10 arrests of members of LSU’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity in connection to the death of pledge Maxwell Gruver. One of the students arrested, Matthew Alexander Naquin, is booked with negligent homicide. All are charged with hazing.
