Search crews have found the body of a missing oil platform worker following an explosion Sunday on Lake Pontchartrain.  Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says Timothy Morrison’s body was on the shoreline about three miles west of the Jefferson-St. Charles Parish line.  Crews are still investigating the exact cause of the explosion.  Crews had been searching for the 44-year-old from Katy, Texas since the Sunday explosion.

A Prairieville man has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of one man and critically injuring another on Wednesday in Ascension Parish. Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says detectives arrested 46-year-old David Foreman Jr. last night.

Foreman faces multiple charges including first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Webre says Foreman may face more charges and they are still activing investigating.

Eight people were arrested in Acadiana on multiple charges of Medicaid welfare fraud. Attorney General Jeff Landry says there is a tremendous amount of abuse in Louisiana and his office will continue to fight to root out welfare fraud. He says Louisiana spends 14 billion dollars a year under the Medicaid expansion.

The individuals arrested allegedly submitted time sheets and service logs for Medicaid services while working other jobs.

There are 49 confirmed cases of salmonella in Caldwell Parish and 31 people were hospitalized after eating jambalaya at a charity softball game. State Office of Public Health’s Dr. David Holcombe says the symptoms of the gastrointestinal illness are abdominal cramping, fever and diarrhea. He says make sure you cook chicken thoroughly and don’t let it sit out.

Caddo Parish commissioners voted to remove a Confederate monument outside the courthouse.  An earlier motion to allow the public to vote whether to keep the monument or not didn’t pass.  Commissioners heard public comments that revealed over three-quarters of those spoke in favor of removing it.  The monument has stood at the courthouse since 1906.  A new location for the monument will be decided later.

Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise is hopeful that President Trump’s tax reform package will be passed, giving relief to millions of American’s pocketbooks and corporations.  The House Majority Whip says the Republicans reform proposal will simplify the tax code bringing a couple of benefits…

An LSU Health Sciences Center doctor says a clinical study of veterans dealing with brain injuries and disorders has shown a reduction in suicides using hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Dr. Paul Harch has been studying the effects of the therapy on 30 veterans since 2008.  He knew some symptoms would be reduced, but was surprised at the final results…

A man on trial in the death of a New Orleans Police officer has been declared incompetent to stand trial today.  Travis Boys rubbed feces on his face after entering the courtroom for his jury  trial yesterday.  Prosecution experts say it was a stint for him to avoid trial.  The judge ordered Boys to be evaluated and if needed medicated after declaring him incompetent.

NOAA released their winter outlook today and it says La Nina will dictate a warmer and drier winter in Louisiana for a second year in a row. Wetter-than-average conditions are expected across the northern United States. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s a similar weather pattern we saw in 2011…

State health officials suspect Jambalaya as the cause of an outbreak of Salmonella poisoning in Caldwell Parish.  Dr. David Holcombe with the State Office of Public Health says there are 49 confirmed cases of a gastrointestinal illness with 31 people hospitalized. He says salmonella is associated with chicken and eggs.

Holcombe says they know that 300 plates of Jambalaya were served at a softball charity event over the weekend. He says one person who showed symptoms associated with Salmonella poisoning died but it is still unclear if that is what caused his death.

Holcombe says very rarely will salmonella travel into the blood causing sepsis and eventually death. He also notes salmonella is difficult to spread from person to person.

Dr. Craig Greene will be sworn in next week as the Public Service Commissioner who will represent the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Houma areas. Greene, who has never held political office before, explained why he ran for the position.

Greene expects the biggest problem he will face as a public service commissioner is getting energy at the cheapest rate possible. He says the best way to solve these problems is to ask the question, how do we learn from our mistakes?

Sadow says the monument was placed on the location of the last capitol of the Confederacy. He says the statue received the designation to be on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 but that likely won’t affect if the monument can be removed or not.

In just a few weeks, hundreds of inmates will be released in Louisiana as a result of a criminal justice reform package signed into law by Governor John Bel Edwards. Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator voiced concern that violent criminals will be released early without proper rehabilitation. But Edwards says Prator didn’t have the best information at hand…

Prator also said it was important to keep “good” prisoners incarcerated, so they can pick up trash, wash cars, and cook for first responders. Edwards says these are the individuals Louisiana wants to release early, because they have proven themselves trustworthy and did not commit a violent offense.

The goal of the criminal justice reform is to reduce the state’s incarceration rate, to lower inmate costs and use the savings to fund more rehabilitation programs. Edwards says the majority of inmates will only be released about two months early. He says these reform efforts will help do more than just reduce the incarceration rate.

A Jackson Parish paper mill will continue to play a vital role in the local economy. WestRock will perform a 200-million-dollar expansion, saving about 400 jobs at the mill and another 37-hundred indirect jobs. State Economic Development Secretary Don Pearson says a big win for north Louisiana.

The mill’s annual payroll is some 28-million-dollars. To help with their payroll and other operating costs, Pearson says WestRock will receive tax breaks.
