Authorities are reportedly still looking for the gunman in a double homicide on the campus of Grambling State University overnight. GSU posted on Facebook that offices are still open today with normal business hours, and students are expected to attend class. Apparently the incident stemmed from a dispute in a dorm room; and continued in a courtyard where the shooting took place, and suspect fled. The investigation is ongoing.

A Jefferson Parish man who had apparently fled a rehab center for drug and alcohol addicts allegedly stole a woman’s car, not knowing there was a baby in the back seat. Marion Police Chief Mark Dodd says it appears the child’s mother got out of the car at a gas station, and almost instantly 31-year-old Gregory Mitchell hopped in and sped off…:

The man returned the child when he made the discovery, and was soon taken into custody and charged aggravated kidnapping of a child and theft of a motor vehicle.

Two men are dead on Grambling State University’s campus following an incident early this morning, and so far no motive or suspect has been identified. Officials believe the deadly shooting may have sparked from some sort of dispute, that continued between two dorm buildings. The investigation is ongoing.

The Interior Department plans to put nearly 77-million acres in the Gulf of Mexico on sale for energy companies to perform oil and gas development. Governor John Bel Edwards will tour the new VA outpatient clinic in Lake Charles today. Director of the Alexandria VA System Pete Dancy says the 24 thousand square foot facility has been years in the making, as they started with a mobile clinic in 2011 and expanded to an interim clinic in 2015. He says now the VA can focus on giving vets the care they deserve:

Former LSU standout Alex Bregman blasted a homer for the Astros in game one of the World Series, but that accounted for Houston’s only run in a 3-1 loss to the Dodgers. Bregman is the first AL hitter to homer in the World Series at age 23 or younger since 1995. First pitch for game 2 in the best of 7 series is scheduled for 7pm tonight in Los Angeles.

First year head coach Will Wade is quickly making his mark on the LSU men’s basketball program. In just one season, he’s turned over the roster and is putting together one of the top recruiting classes in the nation for next year. LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva believes attendance at games in Tiger Stadium would be improved if they started selling beer. Speaking to the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club, Alleva said they have to do a better job of making the fan experience at LSU games more friendly; and he feels beer would be a good place to start. He says hes continuing to push the SEC to change its alcohol policy.

The Pelicans fell short in Portland last night, falling 103-93, even though Boogie Cousins exploded for 39 points. Anthony Davis left the game in the first half with a left knee injury and did not come back. Only two other players had doubles aside from Cousins, Jrue Holiday added 14 and Jameer Nelson with 10. The Pels are now 1-3 and play Thursday in Sacramento.

LSU running back Derrius Guice has been named the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week after his historic performance against Ole Miss. The Club called Guice unstoppable as he became the first player in SEC history to rush for 250 or more yards in three games.

Two men have been shot and killed on the campus of Grambling State University, and at last report; the shooter was still at large. The victims have been identified by GSU officials as 23-year-old Earl Andrews, a senior student, and his friend, 23-year-old Monquiarious Caldwell, both of Farmerville. More on this as it develops.

Veterans in southwest Louisiana have a new facility for medical care.  The Lake Charles VA Community Outpatient Clinic recently opened a 24-thousand-square-foot office. Director of the Alexandria VA System Pete Dancy says this will expand care for some seven-thousand in the Lake Charles area with 26-hundred vets actively using VA services…

Marion Police Chief Mark Dodd says at around 8:30 Tuesday morning, a frantic mother called police. He says the suspect just left a rehab facility for drug and alcohol addicts…

Dodd says he went to the rehab facility and identified that 31-year-old Gregory Mitchell was a patient and walked off. He says while at the facility, he received a second call from the mother of the baby, who said thief brought the car back…

The child was unharmed. Dodd says it’s a miracle this incident was short and simple and had a good outcome. He says it appears the child’s mother got out of the car and almost instantly Mitchell hopped in the car and sped off.

Marion Police have arrested a Jefferson Parish man on charges of aggravated kidnapping of a child and theft of a motor vehicle. This morning, police responded to a call about a stolen vehicle with a one year old was in the backseat. Authorities quickly discovered 31-year-old Gregory Mitchell had walked out of a rehab facility and allegedly stole the car while the mother of the baby was inside the a store. Mitchell returned the baby to the mother 30 minutes later after realizing the child was in the car.

Natchitoches Police arrest two men in connection with Sunday’s shooting that wounded a five-year-old and three-year-old child. Police spokesperson Kelly Parks says both men are in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.

32-year-old Amethyst Baird Rathore of Monroe has pleaded guilty to attempted first murder of a police officer and three other charges in the January shooting of a state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agent. Rathore shot Tyler Wheeler four times during a traffic stop in Morehouse Parish. Legal analyst Tim Meche expects law enforcement will have a strong presence at sentencing hearing to make sure Rathore is punished appropriately.
