LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva says the elimination of a tax break in the GOP tax reform bills could be disastrous to collegiate athletics. LSU and many other schools require donations to purchase tickets, and Alleva is concerned those donations will go away, if fans can no longer claim 80-percent of the donation as a tax deduction….:

The Edwards Administration says Attorney General Jeff Landry is off base in saying that Medicaid expansion is worsening the state’s opioid epidemic. State Police say the driver of a tractor in Vacherie has died after being run over by a train. They say 62-year-old Mathew Alexander III was towing a 34 foot sugar cane hopper in St. James Parish, when he drove around crossing arms with red flashing lights that were down. It was directly into the path of a Union Pacific train, Alexander was hit and died at the scene.

The State Department of Health is saying that Attorney General Jeff Landry is not speaking truth in blaming Medicaid Expansion on fueling the opioid epidemic. The state Department of Health announces new data shows there are fewer opioids being prescribed since Medicaid expansion began in July 2016. This comes amid recent claims by Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry that the better access to healthcare is fueling the opioid crisis. But in a release from the Governor’s Office, the Board of Pharmacy says there was a 2 percent reduction in the number of opioid prescriptions from the year before Medicaid expansion to the year after.

There’s a new program in Louisiana which aims to grow the workforce by educating adults who don’t have a high school diploma. Jason Beard is the senior manager for Educational Testing Service. He says the program is called WorkReady-the letter U…:

State Police say they are investigating an officer involved shooting out of Terrebonne Parish in which a subject was killed. They say early investigations revealed deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department were responding to a domestic dispute, and when they arrived they encountered a man who was armed and had barricaded himself inside. At some point, the man was shot by deputies and died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

An F-15 flyover over Tiger Stadium, to coincide with Veterans Day, will take place as originally scheduled despite being canceled the day before. The planes are expected to fly north to south over Tiger Stadium just as the National Anthem is ending before the 11am kickoff between LSU and Arkansas. The last time the Tigers played in Death Valley in the morning was 2011.

Early voting for the November 18th election ends at 6pm today. On the ballot is a race for state treasurer, and a historic mayoral election in New Orleans.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, supports the the Senate’s GOP tax plan. He says the proposed legislation would help families and help businesses grow by cutting taxes and simplifying the tax code….:

A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed in Rapides Parish, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They said the single-engine private aircraft was found in thick brush near Alexandria. Further details, including the name of the pilot or where he was going, have not been released. The FAA is investigating the crash.

Last night was the open of the college basketball season. The Will Wade era at LSU got off to a winning start as the Tigers beat Alcorn State, 99-59. Louisiana Tech had no trouble against Texas Tyler, The Bulldogs winning 112-71. UL-Lafayette fell to Ole Miss 94-76. ULM fell to TCU, 83-73

The Pelicans return home for their next three games, beginning with the L.A. Clippers tonight.

The Saints will be in Buffalo tomorrow. New Orleans is seeking their seventh win in a row. During this six-game winning streak, New Orleans is averaging 140 yards on the ground.
