A teenager and man were shot in Baton Rouge during a family brawl stemming from a domestic dispute. 24-year-old James McManus Jr. was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property in connection with the Sunday night shooting. A 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

If you’ve ever encountered a “phantom traffic jam,” or traffic slowdown that doesn’t seem to have an apparent cause, it was probably caused by someone tailgating. Researchers at MIT found tailgating does not get you anywhere faster, and it actually causes traffic jams for no reason. Traffic Engineer Laurence Lambert of Vectura Consulting says adding features to future vehicles can fix the problem…:

Should Louisiana riverboat casinos be allowed to move onto land? A taskforce is currently studying if the 15 licensed boats should be permitted to move their gambling operations into structures off the water. Louisiana Casino Association Executive Director Wade Duty says this doesn’t mean they’re trying to add more casinos to Louisiana…:

The state has entered into negotiations to purchase a 515 acre sugar cane farm near Thibodaux where it hopes to relocate residents of an island that is disappearing in extreme coastal Terrebonne Parish. New UL-Lafayette head football coach Billy Napier added another key piece to his coaching staff on Tuesday, announcing the hiring of Karl Scott as defensive coordinator. Napier said Scott fully understands the Ragin Cajuns recruiting footprint with ties in Louisiana, as well as being a Houston native.

The New Orleans Pelicans are hosting the Brooklyn Nets tonight at the Smoothie King Center in their first home game since December 13th. The Pels are going into tonight’s game off three days of rest  following back-to-back blowout victories over the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat last weekend.

The New Orleans Saints can win the NFC South on Sunday in Tampa, but will have to wait a little later to do it. The game, which was originally slated as a noon kickoff, has been moved to a 3:25pm start time. The TV networks are also delaying the start of the Falcons – Panthers game to 3:25pm. If the Saints win or the Panthers lose, New Orleans wins the division.

A Monroe teen is arrested for his alleged involvement in a Christmas Day murder.  Monroe Police says Isaiah Jaylone Smart is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a male.  The shooting happened Christmas evening at an apartment.  The victims’ identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Only 36% of Louisianans feel that the state is moving in the right direction according to a southern media and opinion research poll conducted in November. 45%, and a majority of republican voters disagree. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says the numbers show a huge divide…:
