US Representative Clay Higgins is proposing two bills aimed at investigating and improving the quality of law enforcement protection at public schools. After the revelation that the school resource officer present at the Florida shooting fled, Higgins says it’s time to reevaluate just who is charged with protecting students.

Thibodaux police say a man who allegedly stole Similac formula from the store where he worked and used it to buy drugs. 28-year-old Trevor Theriot exchanged the formula for Norco pills and admitted to stealing chicken noodle soup and gum in the past to exchange for pills. Following his arrest, he was found in the possession of heroin. He is in custody on a 10-thousand-dollar bond…

Commissioner Mike Strain says they were run over by a truck at a levee near Port Barre. The persons responsible for the cows’ deaths entered the property illegally where state owned cattle are present. Strain says vehicles should not be on the levee…

With the special session in the rear view mirror, legislators are looking ahead to a regular session. They aren’t allowed to talk revenue, but issues like TOPS reform and the minimum wage will be on the table.

Baton Rouge Representative Pat Smith wants to send some convicted criminals home if they have kids to take care of. It’s part of a proposed bill that would give judges more flexibility on deciding how to punish parents who have committed non-violent crimes.

The film has been presented at a film festival in Los Angeles and has been nominated for an award for Best Documentary-Short Category. Scotton says the way the story is presented is the reason behind it’s success…

The Bonnet Carre Spillway is being opened as we speak for just the twelfth time ever as the Mississippi River swells. Eight of the 320 pods that are controlled by timber locks. Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Michael Clancy says .The water will be released into Lake Ponchatrain, which has traditionally worried ecologists. Clancy says the Corps has a plan in place to make sure the damage is contained.

A bill has been filed in the regular session to legalize sports betting in Louisiana. The U-S Supreme Court could soon issue a ruling that legalizes sports betting across the country. New Roads Representative Major Thibaut says thousands of Louisiana sports fans already gamble on the games.

He has a bill that allows sports betting parlors at the state’s four horse racing tracks in New Orleans, Vinton, Opelousas and Bossier City. Thibaut says a referendum will also be needed in those parishes and the race tracks would also be able to provide more options
