Nussmeier went 11-of-15 for 173 yards and two touchdowns in LSU’s 63-7 Citrus Bowl victory last year.

LSU Catcher Hayden Travinski announced he’ll be returning to LSU for his final season of eligibility after going undrafted in the MLB draft. Travinski exploded offensively late into the season batting .356 on the year with 30 RBI and 10 homers. He’ll join fellow catcher Alex Milazzo who is also expected to return after suffering an injury during the final game of the championship series against Florida.

Auburn was one of four teams to be featured at the SEC Media Day in Nashville today. First-year coach Hugh Freeze spoke to reporters about the challenges of rebuilding a football program as he has at Arkansas St, Ole Miss, and Liberty. With 42 new players on this year’s roster, Freeze says it all starts with one position…

LSU Pitcher and No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes signed a contract with the pirates that includes a record-setting $9.2 million signing bonus. The deal breaks the record previously set by 2020 top pick Spencer Torkelson and the Detroit Tigers. Skenes will begin his pro career at the Florida complex League in Bradenton. 2nd overall pick Dylan Crews has yet to ink a deal.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor releases a new report that finds staffing shortages present challenges for administering state parks. Director of State Parks Brandon Burris says despite the audit’s findings, visitation numbers are high.

While the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an increase in visitation, recent hurricanes have damaged or forced some parks to close.

LSU won an SEC West title in Coach Brian Kelly’s first season at the helm and the Tigers plan on building on that success this season. Jayden Daniels is back as the starting QB and Daniels believes they can have one of the top offenses in the country…

Expectations are high for the LSU football team during this year’s Sec Media days in Nashville. After a ten win season and SEC Championship appearance and the recent trend of second year coaches at LSU taking their teams all the way, many fans are hoping to compete for a title in Brian Kelly’s second season. Returning quarterback Jayden Daniels is set to take another step forward after transferring to LSU from Arizona St. last year. He’s been named one of the favorites t win the Heisman trophy, but the fifth-year senior is more focused on winning than trophies…

Schools taking the podium today are Auburn, Mississippi St, Vanderbilt and defending national champs Georgia.

Louisiana Tech Men’s Basketball unveiled its conference schedule for the upcoming season. The Bulldogs will face off in 16 league matchups beginning on January 6 as they visit new Conference USA member Sam Houston. They’ll play each conference opponent twice and wrap up the conference schedule at home March 9 versus Middle Tennessee. The conference championship is set for March 12-16.

LSU outfielder Brayden Jobert announced he’s heading to the MLB. The redshirt junior announced he’ll be signing with St. Louis after being selected in the 12th round by the Cardinals. Jobert hit .301 for the Tigers this season with 14 homers including a team-leading three in the College World Series for the national champion tigers.

LSU alums Aliyah Andrews and Sahvanna Jaquish helped the top-ranked U.S. Women’s National Team  solidify its position in the 2024 World Cup Finals after a dominating performance at the XVII World Cup Group A event where they outscored its opponents 28-0.

The World Cup Finals will be held in Italy July 15-21, 2024.

A bill that would ban doctors from performing medical procedures to alter the sex of a child has been the driving force of the override veto session.

Grant Parish Deputies have seized over 71 pounds of marijuana worth over half a million dollars in the largest drug bust in parish history. Sheriff Steven McCain says the large quantity of pot had a street value of 586-thousand dollars…

After a month-long investigation, 57-year-old David Hollis faces one count of possession with intent to distribute, four counts of illegal carrying of weapons, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Charles Dupry is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

New campaign finance numbers show Republican Jeff Landry has a huge advantage in available dollars over his opponents. Landry reported raising 4.5 million dollars from April 8th to July 7th and has nine-point-two million dollars on hand. ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says that’s a lot of cash

Once again there was no big winner in Monday night’s Powerball drawing, so the jackpot now soars to an estimated $1 billion dollars. It’s the seventh-biggest Powerball jackpot in US lottery history and the third-largest Powerball.  The next drawing will be held Wednesday night.

A state audit reveals a worker shortage has triggered challenges in administering state parks and OSP says $42 million is needed for improvements. Director of State Parks Brandon Burris says they are considering all options before a final decision is made on whether a fee hike is needed.

Louisiana lawmakers could overturn the Governor’s rejection of 25 vetoes in a veto override session that will begin tomorrow. Two controversial bills that some have deemed as anti-LGBTQ, including a don’t say gay bill have also been vetoed by Governor Edwards. Chair of the House Republican Delegation and Erath Representative Blake Miguez reference the bill that prohibits medical procedures on minors.

It will take 70 votes in the House and 26 in the Senate to override a governor’s veto.

SLB, a global technology company, will renovate the former General Motors Plant in Shreveport into a manufacturing facility creating nearly 600 jobs over the next three years. Vice President of Industry Affairs of North America Bruce Miller says the company will participate in a solution-based workforce training program…

Miller says the infrastructure is in place and upgrades are underway to complete the company’s needs.

This week is Rural Road Safety Awareness Week, and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission reminds motorists to drive carefully, even in remote areas. Spokesperson Gregory Fischer says nearly 62 percent of all fatal crashes in the state in 2021 were on rural roadways.

SEC Football Media Days begin today in Nashville. The defending SEC West champion Tigers are one of three schools set to be featured today. Coach Brian Kelly and players Jayden Daniels, Josh Williams and Mekhi Wingo will face hundreds of reporters as they look forward to a highly anticipated season after the team exceeded expectations in Kelly’s first year. Coming off a ten-win season and trip to the Sec championship, many fans will hope to improve and compete for a national title. Host of the Locked On LSU podcast Caroline Fenton says even of the Tigers fall short of their lofty goals, it doesn’t mean the program has taken a step back…

Kelly has even said in an interview with USA Today that with another year of recruiting, 2024 is a more realistic year to make a title run.

Veteran free agent wide receiver Deandre Hopkins is expected to sign to a two-year $26 million deal with the Titans. Hopkins was cut by the Cardinals earlier this offseason due to his contract’s over 30 million dollar expected cap hit. After months of speculation and visits to potential teams, the 31 year-old receiver will be joining Tennessee as the number one wide out across from second year wide receiver Treylon Burks. Hopkins, who has consistently been one of the league’s top receivers since being drafted by the Texans in 2013, will visit New Orleans in week one as the Saints open the season in the dome September 10th.

Saints linebacker Demario Davis held the first graduation of his Devoted Dreamers Academy this weekend. Founded by Davis and his wife Tamela in 2013, the academy provides college prep and business of sport experience labs for 8th through 12th grade students.

The Summer League has wrapped up for the New Orleans Pelicans after falling to the 76ers last night 117-114. The next time New Orleans will be on the court will be in Smoothie King Center for their preseason home opener October 10th.

A woman has been hospitalized after “a massive tree” fell on her car during a thunderstorm in Caddo Parish on Sunday. Authorities say the female was trapped inside of her car but was conscious and in good spirits. SWEPCO reports 19,000 customers in northwest Louisiana remain without power due to the storm.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has increased the daily catch for red snapper from three to four beginning today. LDWF fisheries biologist Jason Adriance says the new daily creel limit of four red snappers also applies to federal waters off Louisiana, except for federally permitted charter boats…

For the second time in history, the Screen Actors Guild and the Screenwriters Guild in Hollywood are on strike at the same time. Baton Rouge-based actor, Jason Bayle says viewers are already seeing the strike effects and if it drags on, popular shows could see their next seasons delayed.…:

Lawmakers will return to the State Capitol next Tuesday for a veto override session. House Speaker Clay Schexnayder says Governor Edwards vetoed 25 bills and specific items in three different budget bills…

Cancer patient advocates are thrilled that Governor Edwards has signed four bills into law aimed at getting folks facing cancer the treatments they need. Former state Rep. Julie Stokes is now with the Louisiana Oncology Society and the Survivors Cancer Action Network. She says another important bill signed into law by the Governor assures a patient’s right to speedy review and coverage…:

Multiple explosions were reported at the Dow Chemical facility in Plaquemine late Friday night. No injuries were reported and all workers were accounted for. The cause of the explosion is unknown.

St. Landry Parish Deputies arrested a Melville man for viciously attacking a local Catholic priest with a machete Thursday night. Police Chief Phillip Lucas says 58-year-old Johnny Neely is in custody after the alleged attack.

Neely has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, hate crimes, and home invasion.

Chief of Police in Grand Coteau Jeffrey Guilbeau has been arrested and charged with drug distribution, malfeasance in office, and obstruction of justice. St Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says it’s bad enough that the small community has drug dealers

After receiving a tip that Guilbeau was involved in the use and distribution of illegal drugs, authorities began surveillance and verified the information.
