The Board of Regents has made the decision to perform an audit on universities, looking at admission policies.  Universities will begin submitting data in January.  Higher Education commissioner Kim Reed says the questions they are ultimately hoping to answer from the report are clear.

The report is expected to be finished by late spring.

Today the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of a St. Tammany man who is protesting the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service designation that a portion of his land is off limits for unfettered development due to its importance to the endangered dusky gopher frog. The courts tend to side with the scientific administrations in the case of land disputes, but  Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says a new tactic may find a more favorable outcome.

Eight justices will hear the case, as Judge Kavanaugh, who’s been nominated for the 9th slot, missed the 10AM appointment deadline to be allowed to preside on the case.

And Senator John Kennedy, says unless the FBI uncovers new, concerning evidence backing sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, he intends to vote for him.

Senator John Kennedy says unless an FBI investigation uncovers any concerning new material about allegations of sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, he says he’ll be supporting the judge in a vote he expects will be held within a week. Despite believing Kavanaugh, He expressed sympathy for Ford, but anger at Democrats.

The investigation is set to wrap up Friday.

Today the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments between and a St. Tammany man who says a critical habitat designation for his land is bunk, and the frog who the land’s been set aside for.  Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the owner believes it’s government overreach.

Wildlife and fisheries says its land that’s crucial for the future survival of the frog.

The FASA report is out for the 2019-2020 school year showing record high participation rates for program that qualifies students for grants and loans to help them afford the hefty costs that come along with higher education. FASA had an 84 percent participation rate this year, putting Louisiana number one in the nation for growth and submission rates, but the 16 percent who did not file reportedly missed out on 94 million in aid.

A Jefferson Davis Parish teenager is accused of shooting and killing a calf in the Iowa (Eye-oh-way) community.  Following an anonymous tip, investigators gathered sufficient evidence and charged a 14-year-old with criminal damage to property.  Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says the teen’s legal issues don’t end there.

LSU men’s basketball player Wayde Sims was fatally shot during the overnight hours near the Southern University campus. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Don Coppola says an intense investigation is ongoing and it’s a sad for the capitol city…

LSU basketball Coach Will Wade calls Wayde Sims an unbelievable person during a tearful press conference, just hours after learning the 20-year-old Baton Rouge native was killed in a shooting.  Wade says everybody on the team loved Sims…

Sims was a junior on the team. He played in 32 games last season and started 10 of them. He won three state championships at University High and was named the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year in the 2014-15. His father, Wayne Sims, played for Dale Brown at LSU from 1987-91.

And “Drag Queen Story Time”, and event oringally scheduled to take place at the Lafayette Public Library has seen such high demand that the event sponsors and hosts say they’re going to have to move it to a bigger venue. The new location will at South Louisiana Community College, where a UL-Lafayette fraternity will dress in drag and read stories to kids about accepting their LGBT classmates. The event is still planned for October 6th.

Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination vote to the US Supreme Court advanced to the full Senate, but it will be delayed a week while Republicans whip for votes, and the FBI investigates the allegations.  Senator John Kennedy says he supports the judge and is disgusted by what he calls political theatre that was on display during the hearings, and is ready to move on to a final confirmation vote.

The delay comes as Arizona Senator Jeff Flake expressed concerns about giving the judge his final vote, a vote that would likely be needed for Kavanaugh to be appointed, amidst requests for an FBI investigation.

But Louisiana Democratic Party Chairperson Karen Carter Peterson says Kennedy and Cassidy’s support for the judge sends a terrible message to sexual assault survivors in Louisiana.

Senator Bill Cassidy expressed his support for the judge on twitter, calling for a final confirmation vote to be held without delay.

But Louisiana Democratic Party Chairperson Karen Carter Peterson says Kennedy was wrong to distrust Ford’s allegations. Peterson says Ford had nothing to gain from the allegations, and she believes her.

He says they are asking for the public’s help in identifying an individual seen wearing red pants with a white strip down the leg and a gray shirt…

Senator John Kennedy closed out yesterday’s questioning of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  In his opening remarks, he expressed his sympathy toward Kavanaugh, his family, Dr. Christine Ford, and her family for what they had all been through recently.

“This morning there was still no corroborating evidence or witnesses to any of the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh. That is still the case. And if it remains the case after today, the Senate should vote to #ConfirmKavanaugh without delay.”

Disney Cruise Line announced they will start sailing out of the Port of New Orleans in 2020 during Mardi Gras season. Four Louisiana State Police Troopers are recovering from injuries after a juvenile attempted to evade and flee from them in a police pursuit on LA Highway 1 that saw speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. LSP spokesperson Scott Moreau says it all started with a traffic stop on 18 year old Torie Lewis of Alexandria.  When Lewis stepped out of the vehicle, that’s when the action began.

State Police say one of their Troopers used deadly force on a suspect in Hammond just before 1 AM this morning. Authorities identify the deceased suspect as 23-year-old Coltin Brennan Leblanc of Loranger. A witness grabbing a late night snack at a local restaurant says after being pulled over during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop, LeBlanc sped away after exchanging words with the officer…

Authorities say Leblanc later died at North Oaks Hospital.

Four Louisiana State Police Troopers are recovering from injuries after a juvenile attempted to evade and flee from them in a police pursuit on LA Highway 1 that saw speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. LSP spokesperson Scott Moreau says the second driver is facing the heftiest charges of the three.

All three subjects were arrested.

The Fifth US Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a Louisiana Law that would require doctors at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at a local hospital. A similar law was struck down last year by the Supreme Court. Center for Reproductive Rights Senior Council TJ Tu says across the nation abortion doctors can run into serious roadblocks when trying to obtain admitting privileges, and Louisiana is no different.

But Solicitor General Liz Murrill says the clinics did a poor job proving requiring admitting privileges would be an undue burden for operation. She says there were contradictory statements about how difficult it is to actually obtain the privileges in the state.

Admitting privileges for abortion doctors would allow them to admit a patient to a local hospital if they had a medical emergency during a procedure.
