Early voting is for the November 6th election starts today across Louisiana and runs through October 30th.  Among the decisions on the ballot, voters will make a selection among candidates for six US House seats, a vacated Secretary of State’s seat, and six constitutional amendments are up for consideration.

Also on the ballot, voters in all 64 Parishes will have a chance to vote on whether or not folks in their neck of the woods will be allowed to play fantasy sports for money. Currently, Louisianans are barred from websites like DraftKings and FanDuel. But, even if voters approve the measures, it will still take quite a while for the activity to get off the ground in Louisiana. Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana President Robert Travis Scott says if parishes pass the measure, the legislature will have to figure out how to tax activity…

All eyes are on the $1.6 billion jackpot for tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot drawing after no jackpot-winning ticket was sold on Friday night.  Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Kimberly Chopin says Louisiana Mega Millions sales are up 177% over last fiscal year and says that is largely in part due to this current jackpot run.

Authorities say a Fort Polk soldier was found transporting the dead body of his wife in the trunk of a vehicle. Two people have been arrested on multiple charges after Calcasieu Parish deputies conducted a traffic stop in Lake Charles after authorities received a tip of a woman driving around with a dead body in the trunk of a vehicle.  Sheriff Tony Mancuso says children were present in the car.

Two children are dead today and three people injured following a late night mobile home fire in Belle Chasse. State Fire Marshal spokesperson, Ashley Rodrigue says the family says smoke alarms were working in the home and it’s uncertain how the children became separated from the adults during the escape.

Benton Elementary School families have begun the healing process after a teacher and coach at the school was arrested on video voyeurism and rape charges. In response, outside counselors have been brought in by the Bossier Parish School Board, and are working with parents and students, including Psychologist Grady Bray who says parents need to keep an eye out for red flags…

Early voting begins tomorrow for the November election and will stay open through next Tuesday, October 30th from 830AM to 6PM every day except for Sunday the 28th. Two children are dead today following a late night mobile home fire in the Belle Chase area.  The call came in to the Belle Chase Volunteer Fire Department just before 10PM about the blaze on Hwy 23.  State Fire Marshal spokesperson, Ashley Rodrigue, says a total of five people were in the home at the time of the fire.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission is celebrating 12 months of jobs gains, noting the Bayou State has added 19,900 non-farm jobs since September of 2017. Secretary Ava Dejoie says metro areas state wide saw substantial growth, but one small southeast Louisiana city in particular stood out…

A Bossier Parish elementary substitute school teacher has been charged with rape in a case involving one of Benton Elementary School’s students. 47-year-old Aubrey Norcross of Bossier City was arrested earlier this week on video voyeurism of another student. She’s being held at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on a bond of 900,000 dollars.

It may be a warmer than normal winter outlook across most of the country, but forecasts say Louisiana will be in for an average Bayou Winter, with above average rain totals. State Climatologist Barry Keim says that’s due to the likely presence of a weak El Nino that’s sending cloudy weather our way.

That means more heavy rain storms across the season than usual, and for those excited about a greater possibility of snow due to the higher than average rainfall totals, Keim says that’s less likely due to hotter temperatures up north keeping that snowy Canadian weather away.

A tip from the Sabine Parish Sherriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man in Waveland, Mississippi, who allegedly killed 23-year-old Lynnquithis January of Many. Spokesperson Joe Dewil says when Hancock County Deputies pulled over Williams Jr. and his wife, they say they discovered 3.5 pounds of pot, a .40 caliber, and 11,000 in cash.  Dewil says despite the charges in Waveland, Williams will likely be extradited to Louisiana soon.

A woman who says she was raped 20 years ago recognizes her alleged rapist at a wedding reception last June and now that man is behind bars. 38-year-old John Louis Davis of Baker has been charged with aggravated rape after the woman got his name and contacted authorities. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Don Coppola says they believe they got the right guy…

More than a year after the hazing death of Max Gruver, LSU frats are still seeing allegations of misconduct resulting in suspensions.  LSU announced the school has placed the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on suspension as a result of incidents that have occurred during Fall 2018.  The announcement marks the second time this semester that LSU has placed a frat under investigation for possible violations.

LSU will wear special uniforms versus Mississippi State Saturday night that will commemorate the “Silent Season” of 1918, where the Tigers did not play football because of World War One. LSU equipment manager Greg Stringfellow says the jersey and pants will be white, the numbers are purple and no name on the back to honor the unknown members of the LSU community who died in World War One.

Stringfellow says the paint scheme of the color changing helmet has an iridescent effect between purple and gold, not only showcases the school colors but is a reference to the history of Mardi Gras.
