Congressman Ralph Abraham has a suite of new campaign ads airing across south Louisiana markets that don’t have many voters from his more northern and central district. Abraham has publicly waxed about the idea of running for governor, and reports say he’s giving it a hard look, but ULM Poli Sci Professor Joshua Stockley says  he’s likely anxiously awaiting a decision from Senator John Kennedy, for good reason.

Kennedy says he’ll announce his intentions for the 2019 governor’s race by December.

The Arch Diocese of New Orleans has released a list of 57 priests, alive and dead, who they found documentation of allegations of sexual misconduct or abuse dating back decades. The list, which is available on the Arch Diocese website, gives the name of the pastor, the date of the allegations, their assignment history, including schools, and the date they were removed from, or left the ministry.

The price of pump has seen a decline in Louisiana.  Jeff Palermo has the story.

The price at the pump has seen a decline.  The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.47 in Louisiana today, down three cents from yesterday, nine cents since last week, and nearly sixteen cents since last month.  Gas Buddy.com fuel analyst Dan McTeague says we may see the price continue to drop even further.

3,000 homes are still without power after a nasty line of storms hammered central Louisiana yesterday. Along with heavy rains and winds, seven tornadoes were were spotted, with an EF-2 tornado in Grant Parish injuring two people. Five of the seven twisters touched down in Rapides Parish. Governor John Bel Edwards will be in Washington Parish around noon to survey damage.

Governor John Bel Edwards is returning from Israel today and will travel to Washington Parish to survey the areas hardest hit by severe weather earlier this week.  National Weather Service says a pair of EF2 tornados hit the parish with top winds of 115 mph.  The storm has left hundreds of Entergy customers without power.  In central Louisiana, Cleco has over 3,000 customers still without power.

March of Dimes has released its annual report which grades all 50 states on their rates of preterm birth and reveals racial, ethnic, and geographic disparities in each state.  The country overall got a C-grade and Louisiana received an F.  President of the organization, Stacy Stewart says it’s an indicator more babies are being born premature and less healthy.

The Louisiana Department of Health says they are partnering with hospitals, providers, and March of Dimes to build on the medicaid expansion to get pregnant women the care and support they need.

Thousands are expected to attend the Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville this weekend.  The festival was started in the 1980s with the determination to bring the community closer to its French Heritage.  Celebration president Ray Trahan says the omelette, made in a 12-foot skillet with over 5000 eggs, gets served up to those in attendance.

The Saints are one-point favorites against the only undefeated team in the league Sunday as the 8-0 Rams charge into the Dome to take on the 6-1 Saints. But the Saint favored for a reason, with the dome at their back and possibly the most balanced roster in the league, Vegas likes them to take down LA. Mike Thomas and Alvin Kamara have been the featured guys this year, but analyst Mike Detillier says he expects this to be a different kind of game.

There’s been growing support for the number two amendment option on the November ballot, but not all District Attorneys are on board with the move to require unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases. Supporters of the amendment say non-unanimous jury laws are racist Jim Crow relics, but Tangipahoa, Livingston, and Helena Parish District Attorney Scott Perrilloux says the US Supreme Court declared them constitutional, and disallows racial rigging of juries.

There’s another month left of the hurricane season, but State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s highly unlikely we’ll be hit by a notable system in the next 30 days. Keim says if we do get hit, it would be a historic event.

The overnight hours saw wild weather passing through the bayou state and brought significant damage to areas across Louisiana, with downed trees, closed roads, and debris.  Among the areas impacted, Washington Parish, where Chief Deputy Mike Haley says two elderly men were injured when the mobile home they were in was turned over by the force of the winds and says the area is fortunate to not have seen a worse impact.

Thousands lost power in central Louisiana today as the result of the nasty post-Halloween storm that moved through the area early this morning. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says they’re calling in extra help to get the lights back on.

We saw some harsh weather this morning as folks across the state woke up from their Halloween sugar highs. A nasty system brought down trees and scattered debris, shutting down roads, including in Washington Parish, where Chief Deputy Mike Haley says a mobile home was flipped by winds. He says that resulted in minor injuries for two men, but thankfully they’ve been spared the worst…

Four people were also hurt in Concordia Parish as a result of the storm.

A Department of Public Safety Police officer has been fired and arrested for Malfeasance in Office and Filing False Public Records.  On Monday, Officer Chandler LeGrange reported his involvement in a pursuit and shots fired by a motorcyclist on Juban Road in Livingston Parish.  LSP Detectives looked into the case and found several inconsistencies with the officer’s report.

Entergy New Orleans has been hit with a five million dollar fine by the City Council for having a subcontractor hire actors to support its proposal at city meetings to build a controversial New Orleans East power plant. An independent investigation confirmed Entergy officials were aware, or should have been aware of the “astroturfing”. City Councilwoman Helena Moreno.

Entergy says they were not aware of the payments which were handled by Crowds on Demand, a contractor paid by the company to build a “grass-roots” base of support for the facility.

A new report from the American Psychological Association shows members of Generation Z, people ages 15 to 21, have the worst mental health of any generation. Licensed Psychologist at LSU Health School of Medicine Dr. Richard Costa says the tough economy is partly to blame.

Monroe Representative Jay Morris is publicly calling for U.S. Senator John Kennedy to jump into next year’s governor’s race against John Bel Edwards. Morris says he’s impressed with Kennedy’s work as State Treasurer and says he’s a potential candidate who would bring great administrative experience if he wins.

Early voting ended yesterday and as of last night 307-thousand people voted in person or with a mail in ballot, which JMC Analytics pollster John Couvillon says is a record for a non-Presidential election. Couvillon says even though the Louisiana ballot lacks a marquee race, voters are aware of the November 6th election, because of hotly contested midterm elections across the country.

Hahnville High School QB Andrew Robison has won his arbitration hearing against the LHSAA.  The victory means the senior is eligible to play in Friday’s regular-season finale.  He’ll also continue with a lawsuit against the governing body for damages. Robison’s Attorney David Moyer says schools should not be afraid to challenge the LHSAA.

Two Denham Springs residents were found murdered at their pool company last night. 70-year-old Patricia Gurley and 72-year-old Frank Gurley, a retired Denham Springs teacher, were last seen alive around 4PM Monday. Police Chief Shannon Womack offered limited details, but says they suspect the murders were premeditated.

Authorities have announced they have a person of interest in the case, named Michael Collins.  It is believed he is headed toward Tennessee.
