The Sunshine Bridge is still on course for its January reopening after the bridge was closed due to a barge carrying a crane colliding with the structure last month. The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine has received a 10-million dollar donation from Herman and hsi wife Connier Soong. Vet School Senior Director of Development Tracy Evans says the money will fund several initiatives including a scholarship for underrepresented students at the SVM, but all started when Connie Soong pledged two million dollars to help care for local animals in need.

A tornado watch is in effect for the north portion of the state until 11PM. A line of rough thunderstorms is impacting north and central Louisiana primarily that started this afternoon and continues into the night. Multiple tornadoes touched down in the state last week, including two EF-2 rated twisters in Washington Parish. National Weather Service Meteorologist Aaron Davis says that kind of damage is unlikely this time around…

Dangerous winds, and not heavy rains, have been cited as the primary threat from this system.  Large hail is also a possibility with this system.

Monroe Police have made an arrest in connection with the multiple bomb threats called into medical facilities in North Louisiana.  The multi-agency investigation resulted in the arrest of 28 year old Pauline Copeland, who authorities says appears to suffer from mental illness.   Copeland will be charged with two counts of terrorizing and booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Facility.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine receives the largest commitment in school history, and the eight largest gift in LSU Foundation history. That’s after a 10.1 million dollar endowment from the Soong family, who SVM Senior Director of Development Tracy Evans says developed a close bond with the school after it cared for their two Chihuahuas.

A 31-year-old Iowa man is dead after being struck by the vehicle of an on-duty Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy on LA Hwy 3020.  LSP Spokesperson Trooper Thomas Gossen says the incident is still under investigation and says the pedestrian later died at a medical facility.  The deputy was not injured.

Many will be heading to the polls tomorrow as it is Election Day.  Louisiana voters can cast their ballots starting as early as 6am.  Among the issues on the ballot, the special election for the Secretary of State’s seat, six constitutional amendments, whether or not fantasy sports betting should be legalized in each parish, and congressional races, and a slew of local issues.  The polls close at 8PM.

It was an exciting weekend of football in Louisiana as LSU and the Saints combined to score 45 points, but unfortunately for the Tigers all 45 came Sunday in the Dome as the Saints put on a show against the previously undefeated LA Rams. The night before the Bayou State was treated to only 196 yards of total offense from LSU who lost 29-0. Tiger’s coach Ed Orgeron says that Bama D was downright nasty.

Tomorrow you’ll have a chance to weigh in on whether or not the state should require unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases, amendment two on the ballot. The option passed the House 84 to 15 and has received widespread bi-partisan support behind a message that former District Attorney Ed Tarpley says is clear.

Supporters like Tarpley say the law is racist in nature and has a disproportionate effect on minority defendants who lose the ability to have a jury of their peers, but Livingston, Tanigpahoa and Helena DA Scott Perrilloux says that’s not true, and that a 1972 court case settled the issue.

Apodaca vs. Oregon went 4-1-4 and required federal courts to use unanimous juries, but not state courts.

Voters head to the polls tomorrow, but the campaigns for the only statewide race on the ballot have not had the visibility to voters.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

Third-ranked LSU hosts top ranked Alabama as the unstoppable force meets the immovable object at Death Valley today.  LSU has quite the task on its hands as they attempt to defy the odds and topple Nick Saban and the Tuscaloosa empire.  Analyst Mike Detillier says compares Bama’s QB to Peyton Manning and another quarterback the Bayou State is quite fond of.

The price at the pump has seen a decline.  The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.47 in Louisiana today, down three cents from yesterday, nine cents since last week, and nearly sixteen cents since last month.  Gas Buddy.com fuel analyst Dan McTeague says we may see the price continue to drop even further.

Congressman Ralph Abraham has a suite of new campaign ads airing across south Louisiana markets that don’t have many voters from his more northern and central district. Abraham has publicly waxed about the idea of running for governor, and reports say he’s giving it a hard look, but ULM Poli Sci Professor Joshua Stockley says like most GOP candidates, he’s likely anxiously awaiting a decision from Senator John Kennedy, the presumed frontrunner. Stockley says there’s good reason for that.

A Lafayette TV station reports the Louisiana Attorney General has received four criminal complaints involving catholic clergy and correspondences from constituents expressing support for a statewide grand jury. The A-G’s office adds they’ve responded to each of the victims and law enforcement in the parish were notified of the alleged crimes.
