Repairs to the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish are ahead of schedule.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

A suspected serial killer has confessed to the murder of two Terrebonne Parish women.  The murders happened in 1982 and 1996.  Houma Police Sgt. Travis Theriot says it took multiple agencies, including his department, to make the arrest happen.

Theriot says the most important part of this case is that now the families of the victims have closure.

The Mad Hatter agrees to a 1.5 million dollar contract settlement with LSU that frees him up to chase new job opportunities, whether on the field or silver screen. The rumor mill is swirling with reports that say Miles is the front-runner to get the Kansas head coaching gig.  Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says he’s not sold on it being as real as some reports make it out to be.

Les Miles had 6.5 million left on the contract he signed in 2005 that was cut short after he was fired in 2016. 

Baton Rouge has been flooded with gunfire over the last week, with a 20 percent increase in shots fired, and 10 dead from shootings in the last 15 days including a kindergartner who was shot by a 13-year-old. Deputy Chief Robert McGarner says they’ll be putting 42 additional officers on the streets to help combat the rash of crimes.

Les Miles had 6.5 million left on the contract he signed in 2005 that was cut short after he was fired in 2016. Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says it’s a coup for AD Joe Aleva.

Repairs to the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish are ahead of schedule.  The bridge has been closed due to a barge carrying a crane colliding with the structure last month.  The detour has inconvenienced the nearly 25,000 drivers who use the bridge daily. DOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallett says although they are seeing much progress, he says weather is always a variable that can alter the speed of repairs.

Food delivery service Waitr is going public on the NASDAQ stock exchange this Friday.  The company started in Louisiana in 2013 and has since expanded into over 230 cities in the southeast. The company is working with legislators to possibly add alcohol delivery to the service in the future. CEO Chris Meaux says services like Waitr have opened restaurant owners to the idea of using third party delivery companies.

Les Miles divorce from LSU is complete as the former Tigers coach has agreed to take a one-point-five million dollar lump sum as part of his buyout from his contract. Miles was fired in September of 2016 and his buyout clause said he would receive 9.5 million dollars over six years. But by taking 1.5 million dollar lump sum, he leaves five million dollars on the table, so the two sides can move forward. Miles has been linked to the head coaching job at Kansas.

Kicker Cole Tracy will be one of the 18 seniors who will be honored before the Saturday’s game versus Rice, even though, he’s been at LSU for just one season. Tracy says he kept telling himself the season would go by quick…

In other action Saturday. ULM is at Arkansas State, the Ragin Cajuns host South Alabama, Louisiana Tech is at Southern Miss, McNeese hosts Lamar.

For the first time since 2005 and only the second time in school history, Nicholls won a Southland Conference championship in football with a resounding 44-0 win in the River Bell Classic. Freshmen Julien Gums led a strong rushing attack with 121 yards and two touchdowns. The victory gives the Colonels an automatic berth in the FCS playoffs.

Also last night, Northwestern State won the annual battle for chief Caddo as the Demons downed Stephen F Austin. The Demons finish the year 5-6.
And Houston trounced Tulane 48-17 to end the Green Wave’s three-game winning streak.
Marcus Davenport and Terron Armstead were the only two Saints who didn’t practice yesterday as the team gets ready for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia. Jermon Bushrod will likely start for Armstead and Drew Brees has faith Bushrod can get the job done…

Attorney General Jeff Landry says he’s running for re-election because he sees crime as the biggest issue facing Louisiana in the near future, and AG’s are best situated to tackle it. Landry says his presence in the office will also help in the national legal battle to protect President Trump’s legislative agenda.

Landry said in August he would run for governor if no Republicans who could legitimately threaten Governor Edwards declared. This takes him out of the running.

He says businessman Eddie Rispone, and another mystery candidate should be able to get the job done.
