The Secretary of State’s office says there are 134 candidate runoffs in 47 parishes.

Christmas tree farms are generally seeing a fair crop this year.  And it is looking much better than the last couple of years.  That’s according to Gray Anderson of Grant Farms in Grant, Louisiana, who says weather has had an effect on the crop in previous years.

A convicted child rapist, and former Catholic Priest has died in prison while serving out his life sentence. Corrections says 82-year-old Robert Lester Melancon died of natural causes. Melancon was convicted in 1996 for raping an altar boy from 1985 to 1991 was the priest served in Terrebonne Parish.

It’s a topic of conversation that pops up every Thanksgiving… the story that tryptophan in turkey harnesses the power to induce sleepiness, but clinical dietitian Grace Mansfield says the legend of the bird is a myth.  Many other portions of the meal also have tryptophan such as pumpkin, cheese, and milk.  But what is it that makes diners want to take a nap?  Mansfield says that is because people tend to overindulge for the holiday feast.

Many shoppers are on the hunt for the best Black Friday deals in an effort to save some scratch when it comes to getting gifts for the people on their holiday shopping list.  The average discount this year is around 37%.  But personal finance website WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzales says when it comes to the items, you’ll find the biggest mark downs will likely come from the jeweler.

It’s Diabetes Awareness month, a time for experts to help raise awareness of the dangerous condition that threatens 15 percent of the adult Louisiana population.  It was the 7th leading cause of death in America in 2015, killing 79,535 people directly, with 252,806 thousand death certificates labeling it as a contributing cause. McIver says if you have higher than average blood glucose, you may be pre-diabetic, in which case you need to seek help.

Soon crawfish will be available again, but there’s a dark cloud lingering over the industry.  White spot syndrome, which was first detected in a Louisiana crawfish pond in 2007, is becoming more of an issue for crawfish farmers.  Although it hasn’t happened yet, the disease could possibly drastically reduce production.  On the upside, white spot syndrome has no impact on humans.

21 years ago Gretna butcher Glenn Mistich introduced football analyst John Madden, and by extension the country, to a Louisiana original, the Turducken. After becoming a holiday staple on FOX Football broadcasts with Madden, the local business took off, and now ships about a thousand birds out nationwide, along with thousands for locals.

Turduckens are a culinary Russian Easter egg, where a turkey is stuffed with a chicken that’s been stuffed with a duck.

With the uptick in travel over the next few days, State Police urge those hitting the roadways to exercise caution and patience when in transit to their destination.  Sgt. Jared Sandifer says  it is important to remember to have a plan in place to keep from getting behind the wheel after indulging with alcohol.

Tomorrow, the Lafayette High Marching Band will march in the  Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Over 200 members left the Hub city on Monday for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Assistant band director James Cork told K-L-F-Y TV it’s an absolute honor…

The band is directed by Scotty Walker and has received several national honors under his direction. Lafayette High is one of 12 bands invited to march in this year’s parade.

And LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said he’ll invite players who do not have family in the area to his house tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner, and plans to introduce the guys to some Louisiana specialties. Quarterback Joe Burrow says sure, he can eat oysters, but oyster dressing is a bit much…
