Baton Rouge Police say the 18-year-old son of Alton Sterling has been arrested and faces a charge of first-degree rape.  Cameron Sterling is accused of taking a child into a bedroom, locking the door, then raping the 8-year-old boy he was babysitting last weekend.  Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says the victim is a relative of Sterling.

Former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain is reportedly under investigation for allegedly molesting several juveniles. The ex-Abita Springs police chief served as sheriff of St. Tammany from 1996 to 2015. If there’s enough evidence to charge Strain, can St. Tammany D-A Warren Montgomery prosecute him? Legal analyst Tim Meche says yes..

A dispute over property lines and a driveway that lead to a fatal shooting has ended in a murder conviction.  Matt Doyle has more.

The secretary of state’s office diverted more than $90 thousand dollars from computer upgrades to pay its portion of a sexual misconduct settlement involving former Secretary of State Tom Schedler.  A spokesperson for the current Secretary of State says none of the funds were obtained by making cuts to anything having to do with cybersecurity.

The Chackbay man who shot his neighbor a year ago over a property line dispute has been convicted of 2nd Degree Murder. Lafourche Parish DA’s spokesperson David Melancon says 61-year-old Keith Trosclair told police he feared for his life, and that his neighbor threatened him.

But authorities presented forensic evidence and witness testimony that indicated the victim was not an imminent threat.

The Bayou State can expect heavy rainfall as a storm system whipped up in Texas and Oklahoma moves into the state. Paired with a cold front one to two inches of rain is likely to land across Louisiana. State Climatologist Barry Keim says in some areas of Louisiana the rain could be even more intense…

According to the CDC, Louisiana is among the states with the highest levels of flu activity so far this season.  Louisiana Department of Health is conducting a special one-day, multi-location flu shot promotion, throughout Louisiana from 2 until 6:30 this afternoon. The state saw more than 15,000 hospitalizations last year.   LDH Immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says Louisiana is starting to see a rise in cases, jumping above the regional baseline.

Google Technology Expert Molly Vandenburg says the number one search in the Bayou State was a little surprising…

Louisiana has three of the top 30 cities most in need of charity donations this holiday season according to WalletHub.com. New Orleans came in at 10, Shreveport was next highest in the state at 21, and Baton Rouge came in at 26. WalletHub Analyst Jill Gonzales says one category in particular stood out for those Louisiana cities.

The report took into account child poverty, unemployment, homelessness, high school drop outs, and economic security, health, and safety ratings.

The state as a whole has a 4.7 percent unemployment rate, one percent above the national average, but Gonzales says one city’s employment struggles in particular single it out as in need of some extra charitable love this season.

All three cities scored above average for the number of consumer bankruptcies.

Gonzales says these rankings show the substantial need for giving’s to local charities in the holiday season, and hopes this will inspire Louisianans to seek out reputable non-profits who can bright up the holidays for the less-fortunate.

Louisiana Department of Health is conducting a special one-day, multi-location flu shot promotion, throughout Louisiana from 2 until 6:30 this afternoon.  LDH Immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says a similar event was conducted in January of this year during the middle of a rough flu season that saw more than 1600 deaths in Louisiana.

The state saw more than 15,000 hospitalizations last year.  As for this season, Welch says Louisiana is starting to see a rise in cases, jumping above the regional baseline.

Authorities are looking for two men facing hate crime charges for terrorizing a black woman at the West Monroe Walmart.  Investigators have identified the two as 22 year old Dylan Reynolds and 24 year old Michael Walters.  The woman was leaving the store as the men began yelling at her and calling her racial slurs.  One of the men is accused of chasing after her car on foot as she fled the scene.

 

Over the past 20 months, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Metro Narcotics Division has arrested 11 for allegedly involvement in heroine distribution. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Captain Tommy Carnline says the January 2017 arrest of Tyrone Gabriel had a major domino effect in the investigation…

That’s according to a new Legislative Auditor’s report that surveyed the OMV’s appropriation of funds. Auditor Daryl Purpera says the OMV has been receptive to changes since the release of the report. He notes it can be challenging for that department to prevent these kinds of crimes given how small most OMV outposts can be.
