The NBA draft is just a day away and the hype over presumed soon-to-be Pelican Zion Williamson is hitting fever pitch after the Duke legend’s visit to the Crescent City where the 18-year-old grinned ear to ear as he chowed down on fried shrimp and mash potatoes at Commanders Palace, high fived locals on the streets, and even had a Popeyes honor the world class athlete with an 82 inch tray of chicken wings, the same measurement as Williams’ “wingspan”.

On the Pelicans side there appears to be little to no doubt that the phenom is will be picked as the team has even posted a highlight compilation video on the team website.

The team currently has two picks in the first round, but only one of those selections are currently in New Orleans’ possession. The 4th pick the Pels reportedly received in the Anthony Davis trade will technically be made by the Lakers, because the transaction will not be finalized until at least July 6th. Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver, Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland, and Virginia’s DeAndre Hunter are thought to be in contention for the selection, if the Pelican’s do not trade it away.

ESPN reports that negotiations between the Saints and their star wide receiver Michael Thomas are progressing so well that a new deal could be in place before the start of training camp and when it’s said and done, the former first round pick will be the highest paid pass catcher in the NFL. Thomas led the NFL with 125 catches last season.
