Vanderbilt and Michigan will meet on the baseball diamond for the very first time tonight at 6 P.m. for the first in a best of three college World Series games. Michigan is playing for it first championship since 1962. Both teams went 3-0 in the college World Series bracket. The wolverines slumped at the end of the season and they were one of the last teams to receive an at large invitation to the NCAA tournament.

Chez Reavie won the travelers championship golf tournament for his second pga tour victory and his first in 11 years. He finished with a one under 69 for a four stroke victory over keegan Bradley and zach sucher.

The Houston astros halted a 7 game losing streak against the New York Yankees who have won 8 of their last 10. DJ LeMahieu a former lsu stand out hit a three run drive in the fifth giving New York a home run in a franchise record 26 consecutive games. The major league mark is 27 set by the 2002 Texas rangers.
The United States women play spain this morning in the women’s world cup soccer. The U.S. team is top ranked as they face the spain team. Spain’s coach Jorge Vilda says part of the challenge in facing the U.S. team is making sure his team is not intimidated by the Defending World Cup Champion’s.

A new study released from LSU Health New Orleans Health Sciences Center shows a link between pre-pregnancy weight and breast milk. Brooke Thorington has more.

Dave Bartholomew the hard driving New Orleans Trumpeter and bandleader who co-wrote and produced most Fat’s Domino’s hits died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 100. Bartholomew and Domino formed the most successful partnership in New Orleans music history.

Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in May, a .6 percent drop year to year, and a .1 percent drop from March.
Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Dejoie says the state has 2,600 fewer unemployed than last month, and 12,000 since last year. She says in total it’s a record for the decade.

New Orleans paced the rest of the state in new jobs additions at 6,900, followed by Lafayette at 2,500.
Education and Healthcare combined have gained 9,000 jobs year-to-year

Louisiana’s unemployment rate is down to 4.4 percent, a level economists consider a tipping point where employers have to compete to hire new workers. Matt Doyle has more.

A study from LSU Health New Orleans shows a link between pre-pregnancy weight and breast milk and the effects it could have on infant growth rates. Lead author of Dr. Henry Nuss says the levels of hormones like insulin and leptin in the breast milk of mothers that are overweight pre-pregnancy could impact childhood obesity.

They don’t want to discourage mothers that are overweight from breastfeeding at this time, they still believe breastfeeding is the best option.

Nuss says the study will continue to follow infants of mother that participated in the study and continue to monitor them.

The intense summer heat is upon us in the Bayou State and according to state climatologist temps will be higher than normal this summer. Officials with the State Department of Health want you to enjoy the summer but also remember to take precautions and not succumb to the dangers of heat exhaustion or worse. Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joseph Kanter says with heat indexes already reaching into the 100’s we all need to practice heat safety, stay hydrated and wear proper clothing.

The elderly population might not be able to get help when the heat reaches dangerous levels. Dr. Kanter says it’s especially important that you check in on them this time of year.

Dr. Kanter also wants to encourage those transporting children to never leave them in a car unattended, even for a short amount of time.

Governor John Bel Edwards spoke at the Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans. During the address, Edwards highlighted that Louisiana needs the China trade deal resolved, and soon, in an effort to return to stability.

Edwards stated that more money will be spent or rural infrastructure as part of the new $700 million injection of new transportation infrastructure funding that passed in the recent legislative session.

Last week, Edwards signed into law a budget resulting in $1000 teacher pay raises and $500 support worker pay raises, the first raise for those occupations in a decade.  The budget also increases spending for schools, invests more in early childhood education, and net-new investments in higher ed.  Edwards says it’s a budget that the state can be proud of.

A father is in jail after admitting to striking his two-month-old child several times in the back of the head, resulting in his death.  Welsh Police Chief Marcus Crochet says the suspect did not a previous criminal history. Crochet says it is rare that an event like this happens in the town and it has left the Jefferson Davis Parish community shaken.

The suspect is charged with manslaughter and is being held at the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail.

The Diocese of Alexandria released the names of three additional clergy against whom there have been credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors. Evidence for all three were presented to the Permanent Review Board and the allegations were deemed credible. The Diocese of Alexandria pledges to provide updates to the list of credibly accused clergy as new information becomes available. They hope these updates provide healing and closure and show their commitment to transparency and accountability.

 

A poll is out and making the rounds in major statewide media showing President Trump’s support in Louisiana is cratering, but U-L Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says there’s serious reason to doubt the poll’s accuracy.

The poll by Verne Kennedy claims a margin of error of 4.1 percent.

Louisiana Humane Society Director Jeff Dorson wants to remind pet owners not to leave animals in cars unattended as it only takes a few minutes for the heat to cause organ failure and kill an animal.

It’s already hot this summer with some areas of the state already hitting triple digits. State climatologists are predicting higher than normal temps this summer for the state.

The Diocese of Alexandria released the names of three additional clergy that have credible allegations of sexual abuse with minors.

Fr. Adrian Molenschot has allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of male minors dating back to the 1960s. He died in 1994.

Fr. Nino Viviano has an allegation of sexual misconduct and abuse of a female minor dating back to the early 1960s. He is currently 91-years-old and living in a nursing home in Florida.

Fr. Yves Robitaille has an allegation of sexual misconduct and abuse of a male minor dating back to the mid-1950s. He died in 1998.

Evidence for all three were presented to the Permanent Review Board and the allegations were deemed credible. New Orleans has lost another legend, The Randazzo family posted on Facebook Manual Randazzo Senior, the last original creator of the Randazzo family King Cake recipe passed away. The Randazzo king cake has been a New Orleans tradition since 1965. The Randazzo family says he lives on in every king cake baked and with every experience shared among family and friends. Randazzo was 91 years old.

Dr. John leaves the world a great body of music that he not only performed but he wrote as well. The New Orleans native died of a heart attack at the age of 77 on June 6 (Music bed underneath)
