In Saint Tammany Parish, a Junior High school student has been arrested. A 13 year old girl admitted to having made a hit list, because she says she was being bullied by the students listed. The girl was issued a summons for Menacing and later released to her parents’ custody. Sheriff Randy Smith says the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with schools to investigate any and all threats to schools and students.

 

Congressman Steve Scalise is one of two top candidates to replace ousted Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy but there have been questions about his health as he receives treatment for Multiple Myeloma. Mark Ballard of the Advocate, is in DC, and believes Scalise’s health doesn’t appear to be an issue.

Both Scalise and the other top candidate Ohio’s Jim Jordan have been strongly aligned with former President Donald Trump. House members will hear from the two candidates on Tuesday night.

Early voting in the October 14th Gubernatorial primary ends Saturday and according the Political analysist Bernie Pensonat, Jeff Landry has a substantial lead over his opponents in polls in his 4.5 million dollars in available cash compared to his opponents’ cash of less than 1 million each.

The New Orleans defense is 11th in total yards per game at about 304, while the offense has struggled to click, producing just 285 yards per game this season which is 23rd in the league. Saints quarterback Dereck Carr acknowledged the team’s offensive struggles during this slide, but still has faith in his team’s preparations.

Louisiana Tech will try and stay undefeated in Conference USA play tonight as the Bulldogs face Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers were picked to win the division in the preseason and are also undefeated in conference play. LSU baseball will start their first fall team scrimmages today with what Head Coach Jay Johnson describes as a completely different team from last year. 6 of the 9 starting players for LSU’s national championship team last year have departed for the MLB including big stars like Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews. Anthony Larance Candler, Sr. of Jennings faces multiple charges related to a fraud scheme for submitting more than 200 fraudulent state income tax returns. Candler submitted the tax returns claiming deductions for more than $400 thousand in false business expenses. Candler is charged with filing or maintaining false public records, illegal transmission of monetary funds, and computer fraud.

DOTD is upgrading 12 hundred traffic signals at intersections in Louisiana to include flashing yellow left-turn arrows. The $11 million project, which started seven years ago, has upgraded traffic signals to four options: red, yellow, flashing yellow arrow, and green. Spokesperson Rodney Mallett says the new configuration will help motorists think twice about oncoming traffic.

A former Tangipahoa Parish teacher is facing 3rd degree rape charges in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with a now 17 year old student. 33-year-old Morgan Freche was arrested yesterday. A police report alleges the 17 year old minor student fathered Freche’s child.

Attorney Franz Borghardt says a paternity test would confirm if the juvenile is the biological father or not.

Louisiana death row prisoners scheduled were scheduled to begin hearings next week but that will likely not happen because of a settlement was reached between district attorneys and the Louisiana Pardon Board. A legal effort to stop those hearings was led by East Baton Rouge DA Hillar Moore. Moore says this settlement means only a handful of death row inmates would be eligible for a hearing…

The LSU Defense continues to struggle this season as missed tackles and poor communication have the Tigers allowing teams to complete 47% of their 3rd downs. This is part of a much larger problem as LSU’s defense is giving up about 430 yards per game which will be a problem against an undefeated Missouri team whose offense is averaging 453 yards a game. The Tigers will travel to Missouri this Saturday and the game will kickoff at 11:00 AM on ESPN

ULM is as determined as ever to bounce back from a one point loss on Saturday to Appalachian State. While the loss was devastating for the Warhawks, Head Coach Terry Bowder acknowledges the play of his quarterback Jiya Wright as a major bright spot in their offense.

33-year-old Ian Howard, the man who fatally killed Lafayette Police Corporal Michael Middlebrook six years ago, accepted a plea deal and will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Howard also wounded two store employees and another officer and was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder. He will serve 150 years in jail.

33-year-old Morgan Freche (fur-chay), a former Tangipahoa middle school teacher, was charged with third-degree rape after she had an alleged affair with a now 17-year-old student. A police report alleges the student fathered Freche’s child.  As to the question of whether the student is the father of Freche’s child, Legal analyst Franz Borghardt says a paternity test would confirm if the juvenile is the biological father or not.
