Early voting for the October 14th primary election ends tomorrow, and it looks like turnout among Louisianans is down 9 percent compared to 2019. Pollster John Couvillon with JMC Analytics says the number of Louisianans who cast a ballot Saturday through Thursday is down by 22 thousand.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the southern portions of Louisiana, which includes all coastal communities, west to east over to the Mississippi state line. NWS Lake Charles Meteorologist Marti Calhoun says strong winds are expected Saturday after a cold front moves through today.

We’re only eight days from the October 14th primary election, and U-S Senator John Kennedy has not endorsement anyone to be Louisiana’s next Governor. His only endorsement in a statewide race is Liz Murrill who has been Landry’s top prosecutor in the AG’s office.  But LaPolictics.com Publisher Jeremy Alford says it’s a mystery why Kennedy has not endorsed anyone for Governor after he thought about running.

Attorney Michael Arata representing the death row inmates filed an appeal today in an attempt to get the courts to rule that a settlement between the Louisiana Pardon Board and district attorneys illegal and says he’s hoping a judge will rule on his appeal by next Friday, which is the day the first of five death row inmates were expected to make their plea for a sentence of life in prison, instead of the death penalty….

On Sunday he says lows in north Louisiana will be in the upper-forties and in the fifties in the south. Unfortunately this drier air will increase the threat of wildfires for the southern half of the state tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Day for Saturday because gusty winds and low humidities will result in dangerous fire weather conditions. Maximum wind gusts will be around 20-miles an hour.

Republicans Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise and Ohio’s Jim Jordan have announced their campaigns for Speaker of the House after Kevin McCarthy was ousted on Tuesday. Scalise’s personal health, as he undergoes treatment for Multiple Myeloma, is a concern. The Advocate’s Mark Ballard, who’s in DC, believes Scalise’s health is not an issue.

House members have been sent home until Tuesday night when they are set to hear from Scalise and Jordan and their bid for Speaker and vote the following day.

With election day eight days away, Attorney General Jeff Landry has $4.5 million in cash on hand and none of his opponents have a million dollars. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says every poll has shown Landry with a big lead, which is making it hard for his competitors to raise money…

WWL-TV in New Orleans is reporting a state grand jury voted against indicting anyone on criminal charges in the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel in 2019. Three workers were killed. An OSHA investigation found willful and serious safety violations committed by Heaslip Engineering in Metairie. But the firm is contesting those findings.

In Saint Tammany Parish, a Junior High school student has been arrested. A 13 year old girl admitted to having made a hit list, because she says she was being bullied by the students listed. The girl was issued a summons for Menacing and later released to her parents’ custody. Sheriff Randy Smith says the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with schools to investigate any and all threats to schools and students.
