Republican Representatives Paul Hollis and Lance Harris have been elected to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Both Hollis and Harris agree that attracting and keeping quality teachers is a must. Hollis wants to prepare non-college-bound students for success in the job market.

Republican John Fleming and Democrat Dustin Granger are in a runoff for state treasurer. Fleming previously served four terms in Congress and worked in the Trump administration.  He’s also a physician and a businessman and says he wants to use his experience as a businessman to improve the state’s economy…

The LSU women’s college basketball team is ranked first in the AP preseason Top 25 poll, a first in program history. The defending national champs have a loaded roster that includes superstar Angel Reese. Authorities have arrested 71-year-old Roger Dale Broderick after he shot at several juveniles wrapping his home in toilet paper. Deputies say they responded to a shots fired report on South Frontage Road around midnight in Welsh. Broderick was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm

Following Govenor-Elect Jeff Landry’s win over the weekend, LSU Manship School of Mass Communication Chair and Professor Robert Mann says he will step down after the spring semester of next year.  Landry sent an aide to an LSU Faculty Senate meeting to read a letter stating vaccine mandates violated people’s right to religious freedom. Mann tweeted “sending some flunkie to read a letter attacking COVID vaccines.

Robert Mann, the Chair of LSU Manship School of Mass Communication, says he’s made the decision to leave the university after an 18-year career following Governor-Elect Jeff Landry’s victory. A war of words between Mann and Jeff Landry, who was Attorney General, resulted in Landry requesting President Tate to fire him. Mann says he’s concerned about the future of higher education in the Bayou State under Landry’s leadership.

The Bayou State ranks 48th in the nation for the health of its women and children. United Health Care Pediatrician Dr. Arethusa Kirk says another concerning statistic, a 55-percent increase in firearm deaths among children.

Orleans Parish D-A Jason Williams and his 76-year-old mother were carjacked last night in the Lower Garden District. Two armed people approached Williams as he was helping his mother out of his black Lincoln Navigator in the 1000 block of Race Street. Williams told WWL-TV he’s glad to be alive and nobody pulled a trigger. Williams and his mother were not injured. No arrests have been made.

Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson from the Shreveport-Bossier area says he will run for House Speaker if Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio doesn’t get elected.  ULM Political Science Professor Dr. Joshua Stockley says Johnson is a more conservative Republican and is unsure if he will get the 217 votes needed to become the next House Speaker.

Last week, U-S domestic oil production surpassed the record high set before the pandemic. Republicans claim President Biden’s policies are reducing fossil fuel production. Principal Jason St. Pierre of Walker High School has been granted sick leave for the rest of the year following backlash for his response to a video of Walker High student Kaylee Timonet dancing at an off-campus party. St. Pierre asked her about her religion and stripped her place on student government and of a scholarship opportunity. But apologized and reinstated her position and offered his help for scholarship opportunities.

Governor John Bel Edwards congratulated the Governor-elect on his victory.  But he also had some words of caution over the historically low voter turnout, pointing out that nearly 300-thousand fewer people voted than in 2019’s open primary.  Governor Edwards warning that ugly politics will only get uglier if we disengage and allow the most partisan, extreme voices to dominate.

ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says it’s a surprising result, but obviously, it was possible…

A state trooper in Monroe has been placed on administrative leave after an of-duty D-W-I arrest early yesterday morning. Officials say 33 year old David Hamm of Rayville voluntarily submitted to a breath test after he crashed his vehicle. Hamm was booked into the Madison Parish Detention Center.

A Frustrating loss for the Saints yesterday as they wasted several chances and lost to the upstart Houston Texans 20-13. Saints Quarterback Derek Carr threw for 353 yards and a touchdown. He was also intercepted once and is upset New Orleans could not get the job done in Houston…

The Saints have just a few days off as they’re set to play again on Thursday…when they’ll host Jacksonville in the dome.

Northwestern State has canceled their game against Nicholls this Saturday after the tragic passing of junior safety Ronnie Caldwell. Caldwell was an impact transfer from Tyler Junior College who finished seventh on the team in tackles last season. While he never played a down this season, due to a preseason injury, Head Coach Brad Laird knows that his impact was priceless as he noted Caldwells “voice resonated with every member of [their] team from the first to 115th player on the roster”.

LSU’s defense is struggling to find its footing this season and this week’s test against Auburn’s strong run game will be challenging for the Tigers as they are currently giving up 160 rush yards a game against mostly pass heavy offenses. Head Coach Brian Kelly emphasizes that

And in high school football news, Lafayette Christian put on a show as they demolished Teurlings 62 to 3, Airline beat Haughton 56 to 21, and Parkway shut down C.E. Byrd 21 to 3.

Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise withdrew his bid to become the next Speaker of the House after votes on the House Floor came up short. There were at least 15 GOP lawmakers against him despite receiving the House Republican nomination on Wednesday. Scalise was the second Louisiana resident to get the GOP’s nomination for House speaker.

Election day is tomorrow. Will there be any surprises? Colleen Crane spoke with a political observer on what to expect…

DOTD announces the $79 million construction project along I-10 in Acadia and Lafayette Parish is set to begin Monday. Spokesperson Deidra Druilhet says the project will tackle issues on the 37-mile stretch of the interstate.

The main section of construction will be on I-10 from the Jefferson Davis parish line to I-49.

The “ring of fire” annular solar eclipse will sweep the sky as the moon passes between the sun and the earth on Saturday. President of the Shreveport Bossier Astronomical Society Dr. Cran Lucas says the best place to see the Ring of Fire around the moon is in west Texas and into central New Mexico.
