Louisiana’s two billion dollar poultry industry gets a welcome bit of good news as China announces they’re lifting their US chicken import ban. China banned all US poultry imports in January 2015 after a bird flu outbreak in December 2014.  Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says in 2013, the US was selling about $500 million in poultry annually to China.

The port of New Orleans is one of the largest poultry exporters in America.

The Governor’s race is tied according to a new poll from JMC analytics. Pollster John Couvillon puts it at 45-45, and says his polling indicates most voters made up their mind about who to vote for a long time ago…

Couvillon says the race will be won and lost now not on persuasion, but on turnout, and both campaigns have pivoted to turnout as the rallying cry ahead of the Saturday election for Governor. Republicans have leaned more on the state’s Congressional delegation to make the big push, members like Senator Bill Cassidy.

Senator Bill Cassidy says it’ll be a close election that could be decided by a little as a thousand votes, so he’s calling for all boots on the ground…

The Dome is about to undergo a major facelift after the Superdome Commission approved a 450-million-dollar renovation plan. Commission Spokesperson Mike Hoss says the renovations will help New Orleans staple compare favorably with new facilities like AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Saturday’s ballot also features the run-off in the Secretary of State’s race. Republican incumbent Kyle Ardoin and Democratic challenger Gwen Collins-Greenup face off again in a rematch of last year’s special election run-off. Ardoin won last year 59-to-41 percent. Ardoin says his experience makes him the best candidate…

Collins-Green up is a Southern law grad, who has worked in government, including a position in the East Feliciana Parish Clerk of Court. The Democrat has some criticisms of Ardoin’s tenure, pointing to national reporting from Politico and other sites that raised concerns about Louisiana’s outdated voting machines.

The Superdome Commission approves a 450-million-dollar renovation plan that will see the New Orleans staple get a 21st-century facelift. Commission spokesperson Mike Hoss says the first phase of construction will begin in January, and likely won’t be noticed by fans, but eventually, the infamous ramps that made traversing 44-year-old structure a workout will be torn down.

The Secretary of State’s race on the Saturday ballot is a run-off rematch of incumbent Republican Kyle Ardoin and Democratic challenger Gwen Collins-Greenup. Ardoin won the contest last year 59-41 after escaping a packed primary full of Republican contenders.  The incumbent was endorsed by President Trump last week at a rally in Monroe. He says he has a good relationship with the Commander in Chief.

East Feliciana Democrat Collins-Greenup surprised election watchers last year by beating the party’s endorsed candidate in the primary. She says her number one priority if elected is simple.

The Shreveport-Bossier City area was a battleground in the race for the Governor’s mansion on Thursday. It was President Trump’s third visit to the state to support GOP challenger Eddie Rispone. Governor Edwards said in a visit to the area earlier in the day that he feels Louisiana voters see right through his competition’s use of prominent national figures on the campaign trail.

At a rally last night President Trump also praised GOP primary challenger Congressman Ralph Abraham, who flew in with the President on Air Force One to throw his support behind Rispone.

Two polls released this week show both candidates basically tied in the race for Governor and approximately 9 percent of voters polled undecided.

Saturday’s run-off gives voters a familiar choice of candidates to pick from in the Secretary of State’s race. Matt Doyle has the story.
