A Lake Charles riverboat casino is the first facility to make the jump from water to land following 2017’s Legislative decision to allow the boats to crawl out of the water. The industry pushed hard for the right to make the upgrades, and some are surprised it’s taken one this long to announce a move, but Jones says more are likely soon to follow.

The new facility will have 72,000 square feet of gaming space.

Medline Industries announces plans to build a new facility in Covington that will add 460 new jobs to the region. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says Medline might not be a household name, but they do business in more than 90 countries.

The company will invest 53-million-dollars to build the new 800,000 square foot distribution facility.

The Isle of Capri riverboat casino in Lake Charles gets approval from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board to expand onto land and shutter their old water-based facility. L-G-C-B Chairman Ronnie Jones says the 112.7 million dollar project is a significant investment for the company even as gaming revenues have stayed flat in Louisiana. He says this shows the Legislature’s decision is paying off.

Former Saints WR Joe Horn pleads guilty to defrauding the NFL and it’s retiree healthcare plan. Horn admitted to engaging in a scheme with 10 other former players to place fraudulent claims against the program in order to rip it off. The defendants admitted to filing 3.4 million dollars’ worth of fraudulent claims to Ciga Health, involving fake invoices for expensive equipment they never received.

Cassidy says the aim is to protect children, but a side effect of passing the legislation would be to protect American workers.

A group comprised of the largest energy producers in the state estimates rates may need to increase by 50 percent to properly replace Louisiana’s aging power plants and grid.

Public Service Commissioner Dr. Craig Greene says the Commission will ultimately decide if that’s needed, but it is true that our energy infrastructure is getting old.

Greene says while rates may not rise by 50 percent, they will have to go up some in the future. One option involves having major industrial users find their power outside of residential monopolies…

55-year old Army Veteran, Keith Phillips of Zachary, helps the state prepare for hurricanes and other disasters, but right now he’s fighting for his life. Phillips suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and the only cure is a lung transplant. He watched his father succumb to the disease almost three decades ago.

Doctors say a double-lung transplant is his only chance of survival. Philips and his wife have three daughters. His grandmother and aunt also died from pulmonary fibrosis. Phillips’ sister Cynthia Griffin is helping him raise money to help fund the transplant.

The average double-lung transplant costs more than one million dollars and Phillips needs to raise $50-thousand to cover his expenses; expenses like follow-up care, medication, and a chartered flight to Cleveland for the transplant.

Both were formally charged on 150 combined counts, including child rape and pornography this week.

Activists in St. James Parish think they may have found a way to stop the construction of a new 9.4 billion dollar Formosa chemical plant, the discovery that the 2,300-acre site is home to unmarked slave graves. RISE St. James Founder Sharon Lavigne says they’ve been pushing to cancel the plant since before the graves were discovered, as there are already 12 industrial projects in this district alone.
