Hunter says the city will recover but not without help from FEMA, and a guarantee that the Agency will cover 100 percent of the damages incurred by the city like it did for Hurricane Michael…

The House Labor Committee has rejected legislation that would have increased the state unemployment benefit from 247 to 347 dollars a week. The panel heard testimony from struggling unemployed workers. Latoya Howard is a furloughed New Orleans Convention Center worker who says she’s played by the rules and worked her whole life but now can’t pay her bills.

Just six weeks after Lake Charles was battered by Laura’s extreme winds the city endured over a foot of rainfall from Hurricane Delta flooding many homes.

Mayor Nic Hunter says Delta was two categories weaker than Laura but a much wetter storm.

Hunter says the mood in the city is not great as people try to recover from yet another punch, many of whom have yet to even agree to insurance settlements regarding Hurricane Laura.

The Legislature returned to work Monday after convening last Wednesday ahead of Hurricane Delta and the House discussed a bill that would allow the Legislature to strip local governments of state construction funding should they reduce their police budget by more than ten percent.

Alexandria Representative Lance Harris brought the bill and has previously mentioned his effort is a response to the “Defund the Police” movement but Baton Rouge Representative Ted James says…

House Labor Committee members considered but ultimately rejected a proposal to increase state unemployment benefits from 247 dollars a week to 347 dollars a week.

The hearing saw emotional testimony from members of the public who’ve lost their jobs due to the pandemic. These two New Orleans tourism industry veterans spoke about their struggles to meet their basic needs at only 247 dollars a week.

The legislation came as the state is having to borrow money from the feds to keep the unemployment trust fund afloat. Jim Patterson, vice president of governmental relations at Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, says we can’t afford this right now.

A federal judge has ruled in favor of a high school senior at Pine High School in Washington Parish after the school board decided to paint over his painting of President Donald Trump at his assigned parking spot. Attorney Yigal Bander represents Ned Thomas…

The painting is part of the school system’s Senior Paint Your Space” program and it received initial approval from the principal at Pine High School.

An 11-year-old was arrested and booked into juvenile detention after starting up an unattended school bus and taking it for a 13 mile joyride through north Baton Rouge. The bus hit three vehicles, caused one minor injury before it crashed into a tree and a gas line in the city of Central. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely says thankfully the kid didn’t do a whole lot of damage.

A Pearl River priest was arrested and removed from ministry after being caught having a late-night orgy on top of his church’s altar. A witness captured video of the incident allegedly involving the half-naked priest and two women in corsets and heels being filmed, stage lights included, using sex toys on the altar. New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond says the altar was burned and a new one consecrated…

US Senate Judiciary hearings on the nomination of Metairie native and Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court seat vacated by Ruth Bader Ginsburg began today. Democrats have raised concerns that Republicans on the committee have refused to take a COVID test and disclose the results before entering the committee, but Senator John Kennedy, who sits on the committee, says if they don’t have to be there in person if they don’t feel safe.

Homeowners who suffered damage from Hurricane Laura and Delta will not have to pay two different “Named Storm Deductibles.” Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says most homeowner policies require a deductible for each event, but that’s not the case if the damage is from two named storms in the same season.
If you suffered damage from Laura and have yet to pay your deductible, Donelon says you are still on the hook for whatever remains of your deductible before you can start collecting assistance.

The LSU football team has a 1-2 record for the first time since 1994 after getting upset at Missouri in a game that featured very little defense. The Bayou Bengals gave up 586 yards of total offense as Mizzou pulled off the 45-41 upset.
LSU Quarterback Myles Brennan continues to improve as he threw for 430 yards and four touchdowns. But the Tigers were 0-for-10 on third down and failed to score a game winning touchdown from the one yard line. Brennan says you can’t put all of the blame on the defense
