The New Orleans Saints will face a big challenge on Sunday night when they go on the road to take on their division rival, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Not only are these two teams rivals, but the winner of this game will become the leader in the NFC South.  The Saints offense will need to bring its a-game because the Bucs have a great defense which ranks towards the top in league in numerous areas.  The Saints will get an offensive weapon back, as receiver Emmanuel Sanders has been removed from the Covid-19 list and has been a full participant in practice.  Quarterback Drew Brees says he plans to use all his weapons on offense in order to move the football.

Louisiana Tech’s game against North Texas this Saturday has been postponed due to Covid-19 cases within the Mean Green program.  The schools are hoping that the game can be rescheduled in December.

The NBA Players Association has approved the league’s proposal to start a shortened 72-game regular season on December 22nd.  Training camps would begin around the beginning of December while the NBA Draft would take place on November 18th.

Louisiana Tech has been picked to finish seventh in the Conference USA preseason basketball poll.  The Bulldogs return 11 letter winners from last years team, which went 22-8 overall, and obtained a 13-5 league record.  Tech returns two of their top three scorers from a year ago in Amorie Achibald and Kalob Ledoux.  Archibald averaged 11.3 points per game last season while shooting 42 percent from the field.  The Bulldogs also return two of their top three rebounders from last year in JaColby Pemberton and Isaiah Crawford.  Tech gets its season started on November 27th at home against UT Arlington.

Stephen F Austin has been picked to repeat as Southland Champs. Nicholls is expected to finish fourth, McNeese sixth, UNO eighth, Northwestern State 10th and Southeastern Louisiana 11th.

More federal dollars are now available to keep nutria from damaging Louisiana’s coastal wetlands. Congressman Garret Graves, who sponsored the measure, says there will now be 12-million dollars available annually for the federal nutria bounty program. Graves says there used to be a huge nutria fur market, but that market disappeared…

Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter has issued a Turkey Challenge after his city was struck with two hurricanes this year. Initially, Hunter asked local businesses to donate to the fundraiser to give turkeys to those in need thru the United Way of Southwest Louisiana, but now the challenge has taken flight.

Wednesday Judge William Morvant shot down a request by Landry to block the Governor from extending the public health emergency declaration. Edwards is expected to announce he will extend the order Thursday afternoon.

In the Bayou State, women represent 30 percent of candidates overall, and according to Louisiana Women Lead, just a third of those female candidates stand for center-right ideals. Renee Amar Executive Director of Louisiana Women Lead says that needs to change.

LSU quarterback Myles Brennan returned to practice yesterday as he attempted to come back from his abdominal injury, and unfortunately, it did not go well.  LSU Head coach Ed Orgeron says that Brennan was in a lot of pain while throwing and he is considered doubtful for the Alabama game next week.  The Tigers are using the bye week to work on themselves after suffering a 37-point loss to Auburn on the road last Saturday to their conference rival.  Coach Orgeron still believes he can bring another national championship to Baton Rouge, but says they need to fight through this difficult time.

Yesterday afternoon Nicholls State men’s basketball coach Austin Claunch signed a four-year contract extension, which locks him in through the 2023-24 season.  After two seasons of leading the Colonels, Claunch has obtained a 35-27 overall record along with a 22-16 mark in Southland Conference play.

Quarterback Drew Brees was limited in practice yesterday due to a right shoulder injury.  It appears that the team always limits Brees on Wednesday but it was the first time this season the veteran QB was listed on the post-practice injury report.  Brees has played 97% of the Saints’ offensive snaps this season, throwing for 13 touchdowns in his seven starts.  Receivers Marquez Callaway and Michael Thomas were also limited due to ankle injuries while running back Alvin Kamara is deal with an injured foot.

Receiver Emmanuel Sanders has returned to practice and was a full participant after missing the last two games due to being placed on the Covid-19 list.

A Baton Rouge Judge sides against an effort by Attorney General Jeff Landry to block Governor Edwards from issuing new public health restrictions that are set to expire on Friday. Instead the AG and Edwards will have their cases heard in court next Thursday, lawsuits stemming from a Legislative petition that attempted to end the statewide public health emergency declaration.

It’ll be an intra-party battle for the open 5th congressional district seat that stretches from the northeast to Cenla and over to the Florida Parishes. The seat was vacated after Congressman Ralph Abraham announced his retirement but had an early favorite in Abraham’s hand-picked successor and former chief of staff Luke Letlow. Letlow raised about half a million dollars, an impressive haul for the 5th and secured 33 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Two-point one million Louisiana voters turned out the vote for the 2020 Presidential election with 69-percent of registered voters casting their ballots, a slight increase from 2016. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is very pleased with how the process went despite the challenges of a pandemic and three hurricanes.

It was a late night for election officials in Louisiana but compared to other states somewhat early, staff finished counting at 1 am this morning.

55 of the state’s 64 parishes approved the November 3rd ballot measure that legalizes sports wagering. Ryan Berni of Louisiana Wins says the next step will have to be taken at the Capitol. The state legislature will determine how the activity will be taxed and where the money will go…

Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell won re-election, garnering 53-percent of the PSC district five votes. Campbell a democrat won re-election to the commission in a majority red area of the state, defeating Republican challenger Shane Smiley. Campbell says he’ll also work to provide affordable internet service for constituents in North Louisiana.

Nationally results continue to trickle in with former VP Joe Biden with a very small lead across a number of swing states in the northern Midwest and Arizona and Nevada. The Trump campaign filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Michigan seeking a temporary halt in the vote-counting process in the two crucial swing states. The suits also seek greater access for campaign poll watchers into the locations where ballots are being counted. The campaign also wants to be given access to verify the legitimacy of already counted ballots. A recount will also be sought in Wisconsin, a state that went to former VP Joe Biden by a narrow 20,000 vote margin.

Louisiana voters turned out the vote in record numbers for the 2020 Presidential election. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is very pleased with how the process went despite the challenges a pandemic presented and voter turnout was 69.4-percent.

Senator Bill Cassidy cruises to reelection winning 1.2 million votes, good for 59 percent and easily dodges a potential December runoff. His primary Democratic opponent Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins only got 19 percent of the vote. Perkins thanked his supporters saying over four months ago running for Congress was not on his radar.

14 candidates challenged Cassidy this year, and he’ll serve his second six year term.

Two Republicans are prepping for a month-long sprint to the finish line in the 5th Congressional District runoff, a seat that came open earlier this year after Congressman Ralph Abraham retired. Abraham’s former chief of staff Luke Letlow is the early favorite due to his fundraising prowess. He says he’s going to keep up his barnstorming across the northeast, Cenla, and Florida Parishes.

Letlow, who secured 33 percent of the vote Tuesday. His opponent Alexandria State Representative Lance Harris nabbed 16.6 percent of the vote, just 456 more votes than third-place candidate and Democrat Sandra Christophe.

Harris will be a formidable challenger. He’s the former Republican Majority leader in the State House and a businessman. He says voters will connect with his life experience and conservative record.

55 of the state’s 64 parishes approved the November 3rd ballot measure that legalizes sports wagering. Ryan Berni of Louisiana Wins says over 65-percent of the voters statewide voted for the legalization of sports betting and now it’s up to the lawmakers and the gaming control board to approve the rules and regulations.

It appears that new head coach Stan Van Gundy is already starting to shake things up as the Pelicans are reportedly looking to trade star guard Jrue Holiday.  This could be part of the rebuilding process for New Orleans as they look for more young stars.  Holiday, who is entering his 30’s, is reportedly being pursued by a number of contenders across the league.  All trade talks for Holiday are in the early stages.

LSU quarterback Myles Brennan has returned to practice and is listed as day-to-day with an abdominal injury that has sidelined him for the past few weeks.

LSU head baseball coach Paul Mainieri spoke to the media yesterday to break down fall baseball.  Mainieri of course mentioned his strong pitching staff but several freshman have stolen the show so far during fall practice.  Mainieri says that if the season started today, he would have three freshman in the lineup which are Will Safford, Tre Morgan and Dylan Crews.  Mainieri says that the highlight of fall practice has been Morgan, who he describes as a great all-around player.

Winless ULM will be on the road this Saturday as the travel to take on Georgia State.  The Warhawks are 0-7, but head coach Matt Viator says the win-loss record will not change how he coaches.

Polls close in 30 minutes in Louisiana but if you get in line by 8 PM you will still be allowed to cast a ballot. Polls have already closed in Georgia, North Carolina, and most of Florida, three key, close swing that’s that could decide the Presidential race. Should those states all go for President Trump it could be several days before we know a winner.

Anecdotal reports indicate waits haven’t been too long across most of the state today after a deluge of early voting. For those still on the fence about heading out to cast a ballot over COVID Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter assures you it is COVID safe, or at least just as minimally risky as going to the grocery store. He had this message though for those who would get in line and refuse to mask up…

Mail ballots are up an estimated 165-percent for this election in Louisiana, compared to the last Presidential election in 2016. But state officials are hoping this will not lead to a delay in getting complete results thanks to a law passed in the most recent special session, authored by Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt who says election workers got a four-day head start on the lengthy process.
