State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley thanks Governor Edwards for allowing schools to stay in Phase Three even as most of the rest of the state moves back into Phase Two. Brumley says Edwards agreed with medical experts who are increasingly confident that schools are not super spreader locations.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office announces the arrests of five Louisianans for internet crimes against children. Jared Wilkinson, Pedro Moreno, Mostafa Rasheed, Gregory Pratt and Charles Howell IV were all arrested on charges related to possession of child pornography. Rasheed was also charged with four counts of Sexual Abuse of an Animal.

Million says there are a few things you should do to make sure your online purchases are safe, for example, avoid popup windows and check for secure sites.

Police are seeking two suspects in the execution of a 30-year-old corner store clerk in Kenner. Kenner PD Lt. Michael Cunningham says Abd Del Ghader Sylla was killed after cooperating with two gunmen during the robbery. Video shows them holding him at gunpoint while he handed over the cash, only to be shot after being told to get on his knees while his hands were raised…

A shooting in Shreveport leaves a pregnant woman dead and a man injured. The two were hit by gunfire while driving, causing the vehicle to crash last night around 10 PM. The victims have not been identified but we do know are 30 and 31 years old.

The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season has finally come to an end and residents of Southwest Louisiana are celebrating the news. Folks in Lake Charles were battered by Hurricane Laura in late August and then Hurricane Delta just six weeks later, bringing historic devastation to the area. Mayor Nic Hunter says they don’t quite have a timeline on when life will fully return to normal but it’s likely to at least take months as debris still lines the streets.

We will see the coldest temperatures of the season tomorrow morning with lows dipping into the upper 20s. State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says if you use a space heater, make sure it’s at least three feet away from combustible objects and plugged directly into wall outlets

Southwest Louisiana celebrates the end of what was the worst hurricane season for the region in recent memory. Lake Charles and surrounding areas were hammered by Hurricane Laura in late August and then Hurricane Delta six weeks later. Mayor Nic Hunter says residents are still fighting to put the pieces back together.

Laura and Delta both slammed Cameron Parish making landfall just miles apart. State Climatologist Barry Keim says that was just one of several peculiar incidents of “dual landfalls” this year.

Laura was tied for the most powerful storm to make landfall in Louisiana in recorded history.

ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says retiring Congressman Ralph Abraham’s former Chief of Staff Luke Letlow is favored to win the race for the 5th Congressional District this Saturday, but warns not to count state lawmaker Lance Harris out. He says this race is likely to come down to geography with Harris being from Alexandria and Letlow hailing from Ouachita Parish.

In Kenner, a gas station clerk was brutally murdered early this morning after cooperating with two men that robbed the store. Kenner PD Lt. Michael Cunningham says surveillance video shows two men entered the station on Williams Boulevard at 2:10, walked around as if they were shopping, then approached the clerk with a gun and demanded cash.

The LSU basketball team will take on Saint Louis Saturday as they look to go 2-0 on the young season.  The Tigers won their season opener on Thanksgiving 94-81 against SIU-Edwardsville.  Freshman Cam Thomas had 27 points, while junior Darius Days added 24.

Tragedy in Delphi as a selfless healthcare worker dies in a house fire attempting to save her paraplegic patient. Matt Doyle has the story.

Louisiana State Police began investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 612 east of Highway 71.  The crash killed 18-year-old Wyatt Ricks and 28-year-old John Wuest.  Both Ricks and Wuest were unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries in the crash.  Two passengers in Rick’s vehicle were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

In order to stay afloat during the pandemic, many small businesses have become inventive and added new ways for customers to shop, via online, thru Instagram and other social media outlets, and provide curbside service. NFIB State Director Dawn Starns says many have had to think out outside the box in 2020.

The LSU Tigers are on the road as they will take on the number five ranked Texas A&M Aggies tonight as they look to get above .500 and grab their second straight win.  The Ragin Cajuns will take on ULM today and quarterback Jeremy Hunt will get his first start of the season for the Warhawks.  The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team won its season opener last night over Texas-Arlington 76-71.  JaColby Pemberton led the way with 19 points.  The Ragin Cajuns will be on the road today to take on the number two ranked Baylor Bears on the hardwood.  LSU is looking to improve to 2-0 on the young season as they take on Saint Louis Saturday afternoon.

The LSU football team will travel to College Station as they take on the number five ranked Texas A&M Aggies tonight at 6:00.  The Tigers are looking to get above .500 for the first time this season.  The LSU defense will certainly need to bring their A-game because A&M has the most experienced quarterback in the conference in Kellen Mond, and a strong running game led by Isaiah Spiller. If LSU pulls out a victory, it will be their second straight win.  The 7-1 Ragin Cajuns will take on the 0-8 ULM Warhawks on the road today.  Quarterback Jeremy Hunt will get his first start for the Warhawks since former starter Colby Suits opted out for the remainder of the season.

The Saints are set to play Denver on Sunday, but the Broncos closed their practice facility today after one player and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19. As of now, the game is still set to be played. Coach Sean Payton says it’s business as usual for them.

A heroic home health worker dies in a Delphi home fire while trying to save her 71-year-old paraplegic patient.  When the fire broke out 64-year-old Gwendolyn Theus attempted to wheel her patient out of the house.  When that failed, she dragged the patient out of bed and was trying to pass her through a window to the neighbor.  The patient is expected to make a full recovery.  Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says, Theus put her patient’s life before her own when she could’ve saved herself.

64-year-old home health nurse Gwendolyn Theus is being hailed for her bravery in a heroic, but ultimately fatal effort to save her 71-year-old paraplegic patient from a house fire in Delphi. Theus parished in the effort but he paitent ultimately survived. Fire Marshal’s spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says The cause of the fire has not yet been determined that’s largely because the home smoldered and burned for days after the incident.

Big news for both LSU and the Saints today. The Black and Gold have received word that two staff members and one player on the Broncos have tested positive for COVID, putting this Sunday’s game in jeopardy. No news on if that game will be impacted yet. LSU is finalizing plans to play Bama in a makeup game December 5th in Baton Rouge. A COVID outbreak among the Tigers nixed the previous matchup. That December 5th date is also election day for the November run-offs.

This weekend’s Saints game in Denver against the Broncos could be in jeopardy as several players on the Broncos have tested positive for COVID-19. No official announcement has been made on a cancellation or postponement, and Saints coach Sean Payton is expected to address the situation at a press conference later today.
