The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in route to a 31-9 victory to win Super Bowl 55.  A trio of former LSU Tigers are now world champions with Devin White, Leonard Fournette, and Kevin Minter all getting the victory last night.  Devin White had 12 total tackles on the night and reeled in an interception late in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Bucs.  White breaks down his big play.

Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Lofton Jr. earned his third straight Conference USA Freshman of the Week honor.  The forward became the seventh player in conference history to be awarded this honor for three consecutive weeks.  It also brought his season total to six, the most by a freshman since Tech joined the conference in 2013.  Lofton helped the Bulldogs split their two-game series against North Texas.  In the two games, he averaged 11.5 points and 12 rebounds.  Tech’s next game will be a two-game series against West Division leader UAB.

The team’s next game is scheduled for tomorrow when they host the Houston Rockets at 6:30.

A missing 10-year-old New Iberia girl has been found safe after two sanitation workers IDed the kidnapper’s car thanks to an Amber Alert that went out overnight. State Police issued the Amber Alert asking the public to be on the lookout for a gray Nissan Altima and Dion Merrick says when he and his coworker saw the vehicle in a field St. Martin Parish they blocked it in and called 9-1-1…

The 2016 disappearance of 20-year-old Erica Nicole Hunt of Opelousas is now a homicide investigation after investigators were able to identify her skeletal remains, which were located in Evangeline Parish in December 2018. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says State Police hopes the public can provide clues on what happened to Hunt and how she ended up in Evangeline Paris

The Amber Alert sent out across the state last night ended up potentially saving the life of a 10-year-old from New Iberia who was allegedly kidnapped by a registered sex offender. A few hours after the alert went out a St. Martin Parish sanitation worker doing his morning garbage route saw a vehicle matching the description, blocked the car from leaving where it was, and called police. Dion Merrick spoke about his eventful morning on Facebook…

State Police are seeking information in the now-ruled homicide of Erica Hunt of Opelousas. Hunt has been missing since 2016 but Trooper Thomas Gossen says remains found in December of 2018 have been found to be hers.

Three former LSU Tigers won their first NFL championship rings last night playing for Tampa Bay. Devin White, Leonard Fournette, and Kevin Minter all played a part in Tampa’s 31-9 win over Kansas City. It’s linebacker Devin White’s first ever championship in his football career.

Grambling took down Southern 72-69 on the hardwood on Saturday.  The Tigers were led by Tra’Michael Moton and Sarion McGee who had 22 and 21 points respectively. Grambling will now be on the road as they take on Alcorn State tonight at 7:30.

The struggles continue for the ULM men’s basketball team after a loss to UT-Arlington 64-29, making that the team’s 12th straight loss.  The team is scheduled to play the Ragin Cajuns on Thursday.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team split their two-game series with North Texas.  The Bulldogs won the first game 68-63, but lost to North Texas on Saturday 57-55.  Tech is set to play UAB in a two-game series at home later in the week.

The Ragin Cajuns fell to Arkansas State on Saturday 83-77 as the team lost both games to the Red Wolves this past weekend.

The Tulane men’s basketball team lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats 64-61 yesterday.  The Green Wave’s next game will be on the road as they take on Tulsa.

Two more additional cases of the U.K. variant of COVID in Louisiana were confirmed by the CDC this week bringing the total to five. The CDC says the UK variant, which is more contagious and deadly, will be the dominant strain by mid-March in the U-S. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says there are 20 additional cases from Louisiana pending confirmation for the UK variant at the CDC.

The prides of Webster Parish, Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, and Chiefs defensive back L’Jarius Sneed will face off on Super Bowl Sunday.

White ended up staring at LSU while Sneed went on to play for Louisiana Tech. Sneed says he’s heard the folks back home are brimming with pride, and he’s happy he and White can set an example for the next generation of Webster Parish athletes.

If it were not for the coronavirus pandemic, this would be the first big weekend of Mardi Gras parades. But there are no parades and Governor John Bel Edwards is strongly urging residents not to gather in large groups during the carnival season.

Webster Parish natives Devin White and Chiefs defensive back L’Jarius Sneed will face each other on Super Bowl Sunday.

White got drafted 5th overall in the 2019 draft and has taken over as a star linebacker and heart of Tampa’s suffocating defense. Sneed was drafted in the 4th round of the 2020 draft. He had some bad injury luck early in the season but has established himself as a starter in just his rookie year.

White and Sneed both say they’re good friends who usually keep in close contact but…

Starting next Friday and running through Mardi Gras Day on February 16th, all bars indoor and outdoor will be closed and no loitering will be allowed on Bourbon Street according to New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell.  The mayor says bar employees who will be out of work for five days should file for their claims with the Louisiana Workforce Commission now.

Deputy CAO Peter Bowen had a strong message for bars who do not comply, he says the time for warnings is over and if you are caught out of compliance you’ll be shut down…
