USA Today uncovers additional information about an LSU investigation into former LSU football coach Les Miles’ alleged inappropriate behavior with female student workers. The investigation, which was completed in 2013, alleges Miles was barred from having one-on-one meetings, texting or interactions with student employees after he allegedly took one of the female students to his condo alone and on one occasion allegedly kissed her. Miles strongly denies kissing the girl and said he did nothing wrong.

The Louisiana Health Department announces it’s holding a series of mass COVID vaccination events for those eligible to be vaccinated. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says refrain from taking a pain reliever before you are vaccinated to get the best immune response.

33 Louisiana Republican lawmakers urge Governor John Bel Edwards to join Texas and Mississippi in dropping the mask mandate. Governor Edwards has indicated the mandate will likely be one of the last public health orders to go because of how effective it is and the fact that it doesn’t have an economic impact but House GOP Caucus Chairman Blake Miguez says it is no longer necessary.

State Police is investigating a fatal police shooting in Abbeville yesterday afternoon that also resulted in a deputy getting shot. Trooper Thomas Gossen says a Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy attempted to serve a protective custody order when the deputy and police officers were shot at by 41-year-old Dwight Brown who was armed with a rifle

Louisiana has now vaccinated atleast 657,000 people since December and that number looks set to begin ramping up quickly with the Biden Administration saying there will be enough doses for all Americans to get a shot by the end of May. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says the ramp up is crucial because we’re now in a race against a string of more deadly and contagious variants.

Louisiana moved into Phase Three COVID restrictions today but health officials warn that doesn’t mean the pandemic is over. Our neighbors in Mississippi and Texas dropped their mask mandates but State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says we won’t be doing the same.

The LSU men’s basketball team cruised to a win over Vanderbilt in its home finale as the Tigers beat the Commodores 83-68 in a game that they led from start to finish.  Cam Thomas led all Tigers with 23 points and Darius Days had a bounce-back game with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  With the win, LSU will receive a double-bye in the SEC tournament.  Here’s coach Will Wade on how important this win was.

LSU will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against Missouri, then will focus on the SEC tournament next Friday.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team will wrap up the season tonight against Our Lady of the Lake.  If the Bulldogs can get a victory tonight, it would give them 20 wins for the year.

Tech currently has the best record in Conference USA with a 12-4 record in league play.

The New Orleans Pelicans will host the Chicago Bulls tonight at 7.  The Pels are coming off of a big win against the Utah Jazz 129-124.  New Orleans continues to be efficient on offense and guard JJ Redick says if they can improve on defense, they’ll be tough to beat.

Due to the cancellation of the LSU-Nicholls State baseball game last night, the Tigers will play a double-header today.  The first game will be against Nicholls at 2 p.m. then the Tigers will take on Southern at 6:30.

Last night, the Ragin Cajuns baseball team got a victory over La Tech 7-2, making it their fourth straight win.  They play McNeese tonight.

With Louisiana moving into phase 3, sporting events can now increase fan capacity to 50 percent.

The LSU men’s basketball team will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at home tonight and hope to end its two-game losing streak. LSU has lost its last two games due in large part to poor shooting.  Forward Darius Days has struggled in those losses, putting up a total of 4 points combined in those games.  Head Coach Will Wade says he knows Days will get out of his shooting slump.

If LSU can get a win tonight, it will help the team’s chances of receiving a double-bye in the SEC tournament, which is awarded to the top four teams.

The Tulane men’s basketball team will take on Wichita State tomorrow at 5 p.m. The Green Wave are 9-11 on the season.

Because of the rain and cold, tonight’s LSU-Nicholls baseball game in Baton Rouge will be moved to 2:00 tomorrow. The Fighting Tigers will host Southern later in the day at 6:30 PM. Through seven games the Tigers , are hitting over three-hundred on the season.  Hitting Coach Eddie Smith says the team does a good job of feeding off of each other.

The Ragin Cajuns and Louisiana Tech will still play each other tonight at 6 p.m at Russo Park. UL-Lafayette is 6-2 after sweeping Rice, while the Bulldogs are 4-2 after sweeping Southern this past weekend.

In college basketball last night, Nicholls knocked off Northwestern State 87-71. UNO clinched a spot in the Southland Tournament with an 88-72 win over UIW. In the SWAC, Mississippi Valley State upset Grambling 67-63.

A former West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for internet crimes against children. 60-year-old William Herrin of St. Francisville has been charged with 50 counts of pornography involving juveniles under the age of thirteen and was booked into the West Feliciana Parish Detention Center.

The New Orleans Roman Catholic Archdiocese asks parishioners not to take the Johnson and Johnson vaccine unless they have no other options out of concerns that the vaccine was manufactured with cells derived from abortion. LSU Religious Studies Professor Michael Pasquier says If you are a New Orleans Catholic who decides to get a vaccine anyway, know the church cannot enforce these guidelines.

Nurseries were pummeled by the February winter storms and Ag Commission Mike Strain is pushing to get them USDA assistance.

Yesterday Strain toured Forest Hill in Rapides Parish, a place called the heart of the state’s nursery industry.

The average price a gallon of regular gas in Louisiana jumped ten cents in the last week to $2.43. AAA spokesman Don Redman says while the demand for gas has yet to increase the price increase is being driven by higher crude oil prices.

A gallon of regular gas has increased in price by 26-cents in the last month in Louisiana.

Today the national average for a gallon of regular gas is $2.73.

Redman says the winter storms closed several refineries thus delaying production and with anticipation for a demand in gasoline the industry could soon be will be playing catch up.

LSU Religious Studies Professor Michael Pasquier (pass-kay) says the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines only used abortion-derived cells in research, while J&J used them in manufacturing.

Pandemic public health restrictions will be loosened Wednesday as Louisiana moves into Phase Three.

Governor Edwards says that means the majority of businesses including restaurants can operate at 75 percent capacity and houses of worship will have no limitations on capacity, but…

Bars in all parishes can now operate at 25 percent capacity and bars in parishes with a positivity rate under five percent can operate at 50 percent capacity. Live music will be allowed indoors under an extensive set of guidelines.

After two straight road losses the LSU men’s basketball team will take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at home tonight.  Vanderbilt is just 3-11 in SEC play but coach Will Wade says the Commodores are better than their record shows.

The New Orleans Pelicans got a big 129-124 win against the Utah Jazz last night, a team that has the best record in the NBA.  Forwards Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson each poured in 26 points while guard Lonzo Ball added 23 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 8 assists.  The Pels were very efficient on offense, as they were 56 percent shooting from the floor and an impressive 63 percent on three-pointers.  New Orleans will host the Chicago Bulls tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The Grambling State men’s basketball team lost a close to Mississippi Valley State yesterday 67-63.

The LSU baseball team will take on Nicholls tonight at 6:30 after beating the Colonels 14-0 on Saturday.  The Tigers are a young team and already have a number of freshmen that are making an immediate impact.  Hitting Coach Eddy Smith says he’s not surprised because he knew this freshman class would be special.

Freshman left-hander Javen Coleman will get the start on the mound tonight for the Tigers.  Coleman pitched three and two-thirds of an inning against Louisiana Tech and had 7 strikeouts in his only outing with the Tigers.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team has won three straight games and will host Louisiana Tech tonight at 6 p.m. Right-handed Pitcher Connor Cooke will start for the Cajuns tonight while left-hander Kyle Griffen takes the mound for the Bulldogs.  Cooke’s last outing was a loss to LSU, he is 0-2 on the year.  Griffen has only pitched three innings for the Bulldogs and has a 0-0 record.
