In basketball news, the Southland begins its conference tournament today as Southeastern Louisiana faces McNeese. Nicholls State’s Austin Claunch has been named the Southland Coach of the Year while Ty Gordon has been named newcomer of the year after averaging almost 15 points per game this season.

After losing a weekend series to Oral Roberts, the 15th ranked LSU Baseball team returns to the diamond tonight to begin a five-game week as they will host Texas Southern. After scoring one run in a loss on Sunday, Coach Paul Mainieri is eager for Cade Doughty to return to the starting line-up after missing the weekend series with a left shoulder injury…

Louisiana Tech Athletics announced that the upcoming home baseball series against Arkansas and Ole Miss at JC Love Field at Pat Patterson Park are sold out.  The Bulldogs will host the top-ranked Razorbacks Friday through Sunday before a two-game series against Ole Miss next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tulane will host Southern on the diamond tonight in New Orleans at 6 p.m.

About 100 students staged a sit-in in front of the LSU Football Operations building earlier today protesting the schools handling of sexual misconduct cases and calling for the firing of athletic administrators Verge Ausberry and Miriam Segar based on findings released last week in the Husch Blackwell report…

A few hours later the protesters were approached by a few football players who asked them to move the protest to the administrative building across the street because the protest was blocking in their cars. 

The pandemic has crippled the convention industry which is responsible for almost five-thousand jobs in Louisiana. Co-Chair of Meetings Mean Business Fred Dixon says they surveyed convention clients and found 8 out of 10 say they would like to attend in person conferences in the near future again and the survey also revealed that convention attendees are able to form better relationships and build trust in communications at in-person meetings.

Two LSU athletics officials receive multi week suspensions as a result of a probe into the school’s handling of sexual and domestic assault allegations. The report was complied by Husch Blackwell, who was hired by the school. Husch Blackwell Partner Scott Schneider says their report found that LSU’s Title Nine office was woefully understaffed and one victim described how complicated it was for a case to get investigated…

Voters in the 5th and 2nd congressional districts head to the polls Saturday for the fist day of early voting in the primary. In the heavily Democratic 2nd there have been no outside polls of the race that seems to be a contest between New Orleans lawmakers Karen Carter Peterson and Troy Carter, and Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers. Political analyst Clancy DuBos says internal campaign polling shows there’s still a lot of undecideds left…

Louisiana native and country music artist David St. Romain says the new normal for him and other musicians have been to play online and try to reach as many as possible. An official report has been released that details how LSU handled allegations of sexual and domestic assault.  The report gives 18 recommendations on improving LSU’s Title 9 practices and LSU interim president Thomas Galligan says the school plans to act on all recommendations and that includes beefing up the Title 9 Office.
