LSU lost the opening game of its weekend series against Tennessee with a 3-1 loss last night.  The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead when Gavin Dugas hit a solo homerun in the second inning.

Tech grabbed game one of the weekend series against Southern Miss with a 3-2 victory.

The Ragin Cajuns cruised to a 9-2 victory over conference rival Coastal Carolina last night.  Game two is at 2 p.m.

ULM pulled out a 6-5 victory over Texas State last night in game one of the weekend series.

LSU’s spring football practice is underway and quarterback Max Johnson has been receiving first-team reps under center.  The quarterback battle is a four-man race with Myles Brennan, TJ Finley, and Garrett Nussmeier competing for the job.  Johnson says it’s the coaches’ job to make the decision on who will start, he’s just focused on competing.

The New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Denver Nuggets 113-108 last night.  Despite the loss, forward Zion Williamson had a big night for the Pels, pouring in a game-high 39 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 5 assists.  The Pels’ next game will be tonight as they host the Dallas Mavericks at 8 p.m.

It will be a battle of the Bulldogs on the hardwood today as Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State square off in the semi-finals of the N.I.T. at 2 p.m.

All Louisianans, 16 and older, will be eligible for the COVID vaccine on Monday but some, remain hesitant. Tulane Epidemiologist Doctor Susan Hassig says the development of several differnet vaccinations for COVID is an amazing scientific accomplishment, but understandably creates a sense of hesitancy among the general public.

The first Gamma Tile therapy medical device to treat malignant brain tumors at Shreveport’s Willis-Knighton Medical Center was implanted a few weeks ago. Radiation Oncologist Dr. Jake Wang says Gamma Tile therapy is used when all other traditional malignant brain tumor treatments have failed and it’s not applicable for all brain tumors.

Wang says he’s spoken with the patient several times since the device was implanted and so far they are pleased with the results.

A 74-year-old Superdome security guard says she was sexually harassed by former LSU running back Derrius Guice in 2017, and when she reported it to LSU no action was taken. Gloria Scott told lawmakers that after reporting the incident to the school she received a call from coach Ed Orgeron, who she says asked her to forgive Guice. Scott says she then spoke to Athletic Administrators Miriam Segar and Verge Ausberry and told them Guice sitting out the bowl game would send a message to him…

Scott also alleged that she faced reprisal from her Superdome employer after reporting the incident to her supervisor.

US House Democrats introduced legislation that would admit Washington D.C. into the United States as the nation’s 51st state. many Republicans, including Congressman Clay Higgins, say it would result in the state having undue influence over federal policy.

Lawmakers heard emotional testimony today from a 74-year-old Superdome security guard who alleged former LSU running Derrius Guice sexually harassed her in December of 2017, and alleged the athletic department covered it up.

Scott alleges that ultimately no record of her accusations was kept by the school.

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was arrested Thursday night in Cleveland, Ohio on suspicion of receiving stolen property. Lattimore says it was a misunderstanding and he is fully cooperating with authorities.

Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette has re-signed with the Buccaneers on a one-year deal worth $3.25 million.

The New Orleans Pelicans will look for a third-straight win as they host the Denver Nuggets tonight at 7 p.m.

Junior right-hander Landon Marceaux is the Tigers new Friday night starter as LSU opens a three-game series tonight at ninth-ranked Tennessee.

Scott says when she reported the incident to LSU she was put on a phone call with Guice and coach Ed Orgeron who said Guice was just joking around.

Scott also says she spoke with athletic administrators Verge Ausberry and Miriam Segar and requested Guice be suspended for a game as punishment, and that that request was refused.

All Louisianans 16 and older will be eligible to receive a vaccine Monday and Tulane Epidemiologist Doctor Susan Hassig says reducing vaccine hesitancy is at the top of health officials mind. She says it won’t be easy but for those who have the capacity to clarify questions about the vaccine, it’s incumbent on them to do so for those who are apprehensive.

Hassig says currently the average vaccination rate for those receiving at least one dose is approximately 25-percent.

Junior right-hander Landon Marceaux is the Tigers new Friday night starter as LSU opens a three-game series tonight at ninth-ranked Tennessee. Marceaux has not allowed an earned run in 31.1 consecutive innings. Previous Friday starter Jaden Hill will be moved to Saturday.  While Mainieri says each game is equally important, part of the decision to change the rotation was wanting to get off to a good start this weekend.

A quarter of Louisianans have received at least one vaccine dose so far, good for  40th in the country per capita according to the CDC. The state health department has launched the Bring Back Louisiana Campaign as a way to get people vaccinated. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says they are using tracking data to figure out where mass vaccination events are needed most.

A former middle school principal in Lafourche Parish has been arrested for having sexual relations with a teenager. Captain Brennan Matherne with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says their detectives got word that 44-year-old Ashleigh Landry of Raceland had exchanged inappropriate messages with a teenage boy…

Despite a number of rumors to the contrary, the Pels will keep guard Lonzo Ball, who is a restricted free agent this summer.

Starting Monday all Louisiana residents 16 and older, regardless of health or occupation, can get an appointment to receive a COVID vaccine. Governor Edwards says the decision to open up eligibility ahead of schedule comes as the state is starting to get larger and larger vaccine allocations.

Attorney General Jeff Landry is leading a multi-state lawsuit against the Biden Administration’s moratorium on new oil and gas leases, but Governor Edwards says the litigation is not needed. Biden issued a 60-day moratorium in January. Edwards says while new leases have stopped, he’s received word from industry leaders that permitting for existing leases has continued.

President Joe Bid says America, along with other nations, must reduce current levels of carbon extraction and production to avoid catastrophic levels of global warming.

Multiple reports say the New Orleans Saints and Caesars Entertainment are close to finalizing a deal for Superdome naming rights.  The current naming rights deal with Mercedes Benz expires in July.

The Saints have reportedly signed veteran Tight End Nick Vannett to a three-year deal.  This signing comes on the heals of New Orleans cutting tight ends Jared Cook and Josh Hill.  Vannett caught 14 passes for the Denver Broncos last season.

Also, former Saints linebacker Alex Anzalone has signed with the Detroit Lions

The NBA trade deadline is 2 p.m. today and there have been trade rumors involving Pelicans guards JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball.  The Chicago Bulls are a team that have reportedly shown interest in Ball.  If New Orleans is unable to trade Redick, the team may buy out his contract.

Grambling State has suspended all football activities because of positive COVID tests.  The Tigers upcoming games against Alabama A-and-M on March 27th and Texas Southern on April 3rd have been canceled.

The La Tech basketball team will take on Conference USA rival Western Kentucky in the NIT tonight at 9 p.m. These teams played each other in early January, with each team winning once during a two-game series in Bowling Green, Kentucky. When the Bulldogs and Hilltoppers battle it out on the hardwood, it will be broadcast on ESPN 2.  Coach Eric Konkol says playing on a big-time stage is a great opportunity.

When the LSU baseball team takes on Tennessee in Knoxville this weekend, there will be a noticeable change in the rotation.  During his appearance on “Off The Bench” coach Paul Mainieri says  Landon Marceaux will get the start on Friday night, instead of his usual Saturday spot in the rotation. Marceaux has thrown 33 and a third innings, striking out 36 batters and has not allowed an earned run all season.  Jaden Hill will get the start on Saturday.
