LSU forward Trendon Watford is entering the NBA draft.  Watford averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds per game last season and was first-team All-SEC.

The Pelicans completed suffered a lopsided 139 to 111 loss to the Brooklyn Nets last night. Zion Williamson was held to just 16 points, which ends his streak of 25 straight games with at least 20 points.  The Pels will host Philadelphia tomorrow in the Smoothie King Center.

The longtime voice of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Dave Nitz has decided to retire as the radio voice of football and basketball but will remain behind the mic to call baseball games.  The 78-year-old Nitz says he’s been considering this transition for quite some time.

Nitz has been the voice of Tech athletics for over four decades and has called over 4,000 games as he enters his 48th season of Bulldog baseball.

The ULM baseball team took down the Alabama Crimson Tide last night 5-3 in the mid-week matchup.  The Warhawks jumped out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first inning thanks to first baseman Danny DiSimone’s three-run homerun.  They added 2 more runs in the 8th behind Michael Cervantes’ 2 RBI single.  Pitcher Trey Lindsay was given the win.  ULM sits at 11-14 after the win and will now turn their attention to the weekend series at Georgia Southern.

LSU Athletics Administrator Sharon Lewis files a lawsuit alleging she suffered harassment and career repercussions as a result of investigating reports of sexual misconduct by coach Les Miles. Lewis’s attorneys spoke earlier today. Bridgette Brown said after reporting harassment by Miles her client was ostracized and humiliated by colleagues and ordered to stay quiet.

Body-cam footage has officially been released of the incident between LSU receiver Koy Moore and BRPD that occurred back in November which caused Moore to file a complaint.  Chief Murphy Paul says the two officers involved in the incident didn’t do anything wrong but have received training since the incident.

The LSU baseball team got a much-needed win last night against in-state opponent McNeese with a 14-1 victory.  Cade Doughty had a big night at the plate, going 4-5 with four RBI’s on the night.  Also, Giovanni DiGiacomo had a 2 RBI double in his first at-bat since returning from injury.

The Ragin Cajuns edge out a 3-2 win over Nichols, notching all three of their runs in the first three innings. The Cajuns have now won six in a row and sit atop the Sunbelt West at 5-1 and are 18-11 on the season as a whole.

After opting out of the 2020 football season halfway through and entering the transfer portal, former LSU TE was supposedly in Baton Rouge last week for a visit after initially committing to Florida.  Coach Orgeron confirmed the meeting and said it went well.

There’s an effort to allow voters to decide if recreational marijuana should be legalized and decriminalized in Louisiana.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will not attend a legislative hearing into the mishandling of sexual misconduct cases at the school and athletic program despite requests from an all-woman group of lawmakers. Instead, he has submitted a written letter with his response. LSU is now under a second federal investigation into Title Nine violations.

Baton Rouge Police released body camera footage showing an encounter last year between officers and LSU receiver Koy Moore that led to Moore filing a complaint. The video shows an officer pointing a gun at Moore and Alabama receiver Traeshon Holden just seconds after approaching them. BRPD Chief Murphy Paul confirmed the two did nothing wrong…

Baton Rouge Area Foundation VP John Spain says funding for a passenger rail line between baton rouge and new Orleans could arrive as early as winter if Congress passes the President’s infrastructure bill. Spain says travel from the Capital to the Cresent City would take about 45 minutes to an hour and they’d likely start with eight to ten round trips per day, and increase over the first few years.

In more legislative news a Mandeville Republican files legislation to allow a statewide vote on whether or not marijuana should be decriminalized, regulated, and sold recreationally. Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson says if the Legislature approves the ballot initiative and a majority of state citizens vote in favor, marijuana would be decriminalized across the state.

President Biden’s infrastructure plan could make passenger rail service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans a reality. Jeff Palermo has more.

National Weather Service Shreveport reports strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are expected this afternoon and into the evening as a cold front moves into the region. The Monroe and Ruston area are under an enhanced risk while Shreveport is under a slight risk.

State Republican Party membership saw an unusually large dip in the months following the January 6th US Capitol attack. Based on research by the LSU Manship School Statehouse Bureau 7,800 unregistered from the party, a party that has seen major growth over the last decade. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says while these voters might be frustrated, unregistering from a party doesn’t change much given Louisiana’s jungle primary system.

A teacher’s union is filing a lawsuit against the Caddo Parish school board claiming its attendance bonus for educators discriminates against teachers who took maternity leave, are disabled or elderly. Red River United Vice President Jordan Thomas says teachers have done everything that has been asked and announcing the bonus criteria now isn’t fair.

LSU’s associate athletic director of football recruiting, Sharon Lewis, tells USA Today she will file several lawsuits against the school, claiming she was mistreated for trying to stop sexual harassment.
