Authorities say surveillance video from a victim shows the suspect, 50-year-old Nathaniel Smith, delivering only part of an order including one package of more than $1200 worth of cigarettes. Smith has been charged with felony theft.

Police found the bludgeoned body of 77 year-old Chester Oakley, wrapped in sheets, and buried in a tomato garden behind the home.

It was a close call for the main house of the Myrtles Plantation last night when a fire broke out in the gift shop. It took the St. Francisville Fire Department, along with several other agencies from around the area, a couple of hours to get control of the blaze. The main house was not damaged. And that fire is currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
