He thinks the knowledge gained after Hurricane Katrina will benefit Louisiana for years to come.

A federal judge is expected to rule Friday on a new law that critics of the legislation say will force Louisiana’s five abortion clinics to close. The law in question was passed by the state legislature earlier this year and it goes into effect Monday. It requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed the court challenge last week, claiming not enough time was given for doctors to get responses from hospitals.

Louisiana State Police says a Delcambre (dell-come) woman succumbed to her injuries after a single vehicle crash this week evening in Iberia Parish. They say 41-year-old Amy Noel lost control of her car on La 14 and crashed into a culvert on the drivers side of the vehicle. She was airlifted to a hospital and LSP was notified yesterday that she passed away.

The South Plaquemines High School student who was suspended because of his religiously mandated hairstyle, has been allowed to return to class. The student is a follower of the Rastafari religion and is required not to cut his hair. ACLU-LA Executive Director Marjorie Esman says school policy is that boy’s hair cannot extend past the collar…:

Davis was President of St. Tammany Parish when Katrina hit.  He says he feels the people of Louisiana have learned quite a bit about hurricane preparedness as a result of Katrina.  Davis is very confident on the local and statewide level that officials are prepared for any type of disaster…

Four arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of a Minden man, which authorities believe happened Sunday night. Eighteen year-old Omar Lott was shot several times and killed, as he was allegedly attempting to rob suspected drug dealer Murphy Lee Robinson of money and drugs. It’s the first homicide of the year in Webster Parish.
