In exactly one year, candidates will officially be able to qualify for the 2015 Governor’s race. So far, Republicans Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and US Senator David Vitter have declared candidacy. The only announced Democrat, so far, is State Representative John Bel Edwards. UL-Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says even though Edwards is not well known throughout the state, there are plenty who will pull the lever for the “D” no matter what…

Democratic New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is a rumored candidate.

State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an off-duty Slidell Police Officer who may have been drunk when the crash occurred. They say 31-year-old John Cole was driving when he lost control of the vehicle and flipped into a ditch. His passenger, 31-year-old Daniel Hanlon of Slidell, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cole was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition. Impairment is suspected on part of the officer.

Supporters of gay marriage in Louisiana have filed an appeal with the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals regarding the ruling last week by a federal judge who upheld Louisiana’s ban on same sex marriage. But Tulane Constitutional Law Professor Keith Werhan says the US Supreme Court will likely rule on this issue and put to rest the argument over whether states have the right to define what constitutes a marriage…

State Police say an off-duty Slidell Police officer may have been drunk when he got into a fatal crash Sunday morning. They say 31-year-old John Cole was driving when he missed a curve and flipped into a ditch. His passenger, 31-year-old Daniel Hanlon also of Slidell, was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment is suspected on the part of the officer who is in serious condition at a New Orleans hospital.

Lawmakers in California recently approved a bill that would pump a lot more money into their film tax credit program, but Louisiana Entertainment doesn’t think that threatens Hollywood South. Executive Director Chris Stelly says the move DOES speak highly of what Louisiana has done over the last several years…:

Governor Bobby Jindal is on the road today, visiting the all – important Presidential campaign state of New Hampshire. This hour, he is making an appearance at a picnic and Chili Fest sponsored by the Seacoast Republican Women’s Organization. It is Jindal’s second trip to New Hampshire this year, as he is considering a run for the White House in 2016.

Hollis claimed Landrieu was not a resident of the state, making her ineligible to run for Senate. He believes, however, the issue will not just go away…

Madison Parish Sheriff’s Deputies say they’ve made an arrest yesterday in connection in the shooting death of a Tallulah man Thursday night. Rashard Neil is charged with second degree murder for the alleged killing of LaPatrick Mitchell, who was shot several times at a car wash in Tallulah. Neil’s bond was set at one million dollars.

Louisiana Health Officials have confirmed two more West Nile Virus deaths in Northwest Louisiana, and another in the Baton Rouge area. The Department of Health and Hospitals says that brings the number of deaths in the state to four so far this year, and 19 additional cases reported this week, bringing the yearly case total to 80.

It’s the 90th year of Tiger Stadium that begins tonight and the new 80 million dollar south end zone expansion. That will bring the crowd capacity to over 102 thousand. The Tigers kick off against Sam Houston State at 6:30 pm, and tomorrow, it’s Saints and the Falcons in Atlanta, and Coach Sean Payton says, they’re going have to keep a close eye on Julio Jones…

Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Deputies are calling it a “cartel like” marijuana grow in the Village of Tangipahoa, finding a combination of 250 pounds of processed marijuana, and 320 massive marijuana plants, which according to authorites, looked like Christmas trees. Four arrests were made.

Police in Sunset say their town was rocked by a rare murder yesterday evening. They say a young man is in jail and 35-year-old Stefan Lemelle lost his life after being shot in the chest. Chief Alexcie Guillory says they responded to the call around 7:50pm Thursday evening…:

Guillory says Lemelle was pronounced dead at the scene. He says witnesses reported the suspect and the victim were involved in an altercation when the shooting took place…:(Guillory says this is only the 3rd murder he’s investigated in his 12 years as chief.)
