The Shreveport Police Department says a man they believe killed a 53-year-old Shreve Island woman this week has been captured in Mexico. Corporal Marcus Hines says Angela Godley was found shot to death Wednesday and her live-in boyfriend, 58-year-old Mark Colby, was on the run…

Forecasters are watching an area of low pressure over southern Florida that’s expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico. Andrew Ansorge, with the National Weather Service in Slidell, says slow development is expected with this area of low pressure, because of the presence of dry air and high wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico. But he says it will increase our rain chances for this weekend..

Monroe Police say 32-year-old Marlando Honeycut was shot in the face and chest area by his girlfriend’s ex-husband, Lemerick Christopher. Mouton says officers later apprehended the suspect, 23-year-old Chase Chaisson of Lafayette and transported him to an area hospital. Chaisson will be charged with attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer, among other charges, upon release. The resident of the apartment where the suspect was found hiding has also been charged.

An Ascension Parish jury has found a 40-year-old Gonzales man guilty of molesting a young girl. Joseph Scott McKinney molested the girl numerous times when she was between the ages of 6 to 13. McKinney faces up to 99 years in prison.

Stephanie Hayden Ford, the daughter and co-star of Will Hayden on the now-cancelled “Sons of Guns” television show, tells the “Dr. Phil” show her father inappropriately touched her when she was 12-years-old. Hayden’s attorney, C. Frank Holthaus, cautioned against emotional reactions and urged people to give the court process time to let the truth come out. But Ford says she stands by her story and if the allegations are proven true, her father should go to jail for a long time…

The National Weather Service is keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that is moving across south Florida into the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters give the area a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone over the next 5 days. They say some tropical downpours are predicted throughout the weekend and into early next week.

The Lafayette Police Department says one of their officers and a suspect are hospitalized suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred last night as the officer was searching an apartment looking for a person who was involved in a shooting the night before. Authorities says the suspect and the officer exchanged gunfire and both were hit. The police officer is in stable condition, the suspect was taken into custody in Acadia Parish and then transported to a hospital.

According to a new Glascock poll, Former Governor Edwin Edwards would make the runoff in the 6th Congressional District race — but he wouldn’t win in December. Pollster Darrell Glascock says the poll shows the Republicans in the runoff as Dan Claitor, Paul Dietzel, Garret Graves, and Lenar Whitney…:

Another point he makes is that traditionally half of voters don’t return to the polls for runoffs and that could help Edwards.

The LSU Board of Supervisors is meeting today where it’s expected they will extend Athletic Director Joe Alleva’s contract through 2019. Detective John Cole, the Slidell officer who was involved in a suspected drunk driving fatal accident Sunday, died from his injuries Wednesday afternoon. Trooper Greg Marchand says Cole flipped his Jeep in the crash and his passenger, Daniel Hanlon, died on the scene. Marchand says impairment on the part of Cole is suspected. They are still awaiting the toxicology report.

Republican US Senate candidate Bill Cassidy says he will now debate at least two times against Democratic incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu. The Cassidy campaign says Landrieu is pushing three other debates, which Cassidy has declined to participate, because they are highly scripted and don’t require voter interaction. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Cassidy feels like he’s in good shape…

State Police say Detective John Cole flipped his Jeep in the crash and his passenger, Daniel Hanlon, died on the scene. Marchand says impairment on the part of Cole is suspected. Hanlon was a coach and teacher at Salmon High School and he was laid to rest today.
