Sheriff Mike Couvillion says the crash involved 34-year-old Shawn Lalonde, 29-year-old Kyle Dudding, and a 13-year-old at the intersection of Highway 35 and Clint Rd near Kaplan…

A West Monroe man with an apparent sweet tooth has been arrested on theft charges after trying to stuff over $36 dollars of candy bags from a Walgreens store in his pants legs. Deputies responded to the store after the assistant manager reported a previous incident involving 36 year-old Alric Van Buren.

A weekend four-wheeling accident has killed two people, and has injured a juvenile on Highway 35 and Clint Road near Kaplan. Vermillion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillion says the ATV apparently ran a stop sign, went airborne, then crashed into a ditch.

(Couvillion says there was evidence at the scene suggesting Lalonde was the driver and a slight incline in the road may have served as a ramp causing the ATV to become airborne before it crashed.)

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 63-year-old Opelousas man for allegedly misusing the 9-1-1 emergency line. Authorities say Olan Deville called 9-1-1 eighteen times on September 20th requesting medical assistance only to cancel or refuse medical attention when the ambulance arrived. Deville is charged with 18 counts of criminal mischief among other charges.

Officials have confirmed two additional cases of West Nile Virus in Lafourche Parish. They say one case was confirmed in Cut Off and another in Thibodaux. The condition of the individuals is unknown at this time.

A small experimental aircraft similar to a helicopter crashed into a canal yesterday afternoon in Reserve at the St. John the Baptist Parish airport killing the two occupants. Authorities say as the gyrocopter was attempting to make a turn, the top rotor blades collapsed causing the aircraft to crash. The victims have been identified as 48-year-old Darren Mahler and 13-year-old Payton Wilt, both of Metairie. An FAA investigation is underway.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office says a West Monroe man with a sweet tooth was arrested Sunday accused of stealing over $35 worth of candy. Authorities say 36-year-old Arlic Vanburen subsequently removed three bags of Snickers, three bags of Twix, one bag of Skittles, and a bag of bite sized candies that he had pushed down his pants. Vanburen was booked at the Ouachita Correctional facility.

A child from Zwolle has died after cops say he got his head stuck in a car window while his mom was driving. Sabine Parish Authorities say they believe the 19-month-old was killed from asphyxiation but an autopsy is planned this morning. The mother reportedly said she left the child unrestrained when she was going from one place to another Saturday night.

State Police say a man from Welsh was killed in a crash in Avoyelles Parish late Sunday afternoon. They say 24-year-old Timothy Vanness ran off the roadway when he lost control on High 114, entered a ditch and crashed into several trees. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
